The late 80s/early 90’s also happened to coincide with growing crime in the CBD. That definitely didn’t help with perception.

This has historically been the biggest issue in Louisiana. It’s what killed the Baton Rouge loop. One big fish enjoying his small pond starts feeling threatened and pretty soon the whole deal gets torpedoed. But they keep electing them.

One fairly recent one was when JBE lost ExxonMobil plant that would have went to Morgan City to Corpus Christi, TX.
For Louisiana, I hope SpaceX takes off, but the state has some idiots in it and might scare Elon away.

A guy from Louisiana was one of the big movers behind Branson when it was blowing up as a tourist destination. He tried to do the same thing here but couldn't get any backing from the state or private investors.
