Trying to think of all the times Louisiana has bid/tried to bring a major company in and they Fuqked up.

If I recall in the 90s they were bidding on a bunch of car manufacturing plants like Toyota and Mercedes and they ended up being built in Alabama Tennessee and South Caroline.

I'm sure there's more, I just can't think of any.

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Mayor Kip Holden made an announcement Tuesday morning that a local developer has big plans for the Baton Rouge riverfront.

Holden says River Park will be a mixed-use development similar to Perkins Rowe.

While the project has the mayor's blessing, it is not ready to go.

This is a long-term project expected to take 10 years to complete.

The developer says River Park will occupy 1500 feet along the Mississippi, between the two casinos in downtown Baton Rouge.

Between 800 and 1200 condos for a variety of income levels and age groups are planned.

People living and working in the development will have 6000 parking spaces to use.

Those visiting will have 500 hotel rooms to choose from.

It will take $600 million to build the complex and that will provide over 200 construction jobs per year for the next decade.

Bombardier wanted to build a air/rail/river complex around Donaldsonville/St James area back in the 90s.

The idea was to compete as a hub for cargo and travel.

Oil and Gas. It’s hard to understand why our state is so poor and incompetent, whenever we’re one of the world’s leaders in having O&G. I don’t understand how we aren’t a smaller version of Texas tbh. There’s so much money and natural resource here. Many countries and states would go to war to get what we have.

I don’t think any one ran them off necessarily. Some of that was a natural consolidation into a single central office in a larger city especially after a huge downturn in the oil and gas business when it became cheaper to import oil than drill for it domestically.

Hardly an investment, but Louisiana politicians can barely get
Buc-ee’s to locate here. It’s taken 2 governors and forever ! Love to have heard all the conversations from the first one to finally issuing the permit.

IDIOTS …

…corruption…

and

You ask yourself why Louisiana isn’t writing O & G dividend checks like Alaska. Alaska’s natives are self sufficient. Ours are nothing but a liability. From welfare to incarceration.

I wouldn’t take a victory lap just yet. I have a sinking feeling Louisiana is going to frick this up. You should see some of the “news” and reports around social media of how this thing is going to have everyone in Lafayette needing to move because their windows will break and all the farmers in Acadiana will have worthless farm land because of this.
