Are we producing more? Or is technology masking that less people are working?
Not that long ago pre computers people were sending handwritten memos and shite and still working a 5 day, 40 hr week. Now we have computers all around us and almost instant communication and information and we are still working a 5 day, 40hr week.

If I didn’t spend have my days waiting for the idiots I work with so I can complete my work, I would start at midnight Monday and work 40 consecutive hours and then be off until the next Monday

Unions are the shite. They increase labor costs and decrease productivity. They've done an exceptional job of dragging down the US economy over the past 3 decades.

If this board is any indication, most people are just dicking off on Tigerdroppings all day and not actually working.

Time wasting used to consist of hanging around the water cooler. It was easy for a manager to nip that in the bud.
Now, many jobs are heavily dependent upon computers and smart phones. While it allows certain job aspects to be more efficient, it also makes distractions quickly accessible and easy to hide.

The old baby boomer frick who used to hold my position literally took a whole week to put out proposals that I do in 30-45 min. We used to have 5 in my dept. responsible for about 12-15M a year in output. Now it’s me and another guy, doing 15-18M. I still spend 50% of my days or more bullshitting on the internet.
Automation of office responsibilities/processes using computer technology is truly a beautiful thing.

I don’t question the 40 hours. I question the 9-5

The ppl that don’t like Unions are those who aren’t in the Union.

Work is changing.
It used to be a group of 20 to do a job.
Now, it takes 10 people full time to fix the computers errors for the computer that does that job. 4 people are looking at getting that team down to 5 people. And 6 people aren't of a job.

So, Americans have become more efficient due to technological advances, still get paid the same, and bitch about wages and inflation.
Essentially we’re producing more deliverables, but aren’t compensated as such because this ability is correlated with higher efficiency due to technology.

Or the ones who have financial stake in the success or failure of the business.
You don’t like how much you make? Fine, stick your nuts on the line, collateralize all of your assets, take out a loan and go into business for yourself. You make make more, or lose everything. I bet you end up hating your precious union though very quickly.

But why are you being loaded up? Your predecessor in 1985 sure as frick wasn’t getting as much done (assuming you are corporate).
