Funny. I’ve had conversations with people in corporate roles that are discovering a new problem. Now that pensions are being eliminated, they are having a hard time retaining experienced employees. It’s like high performing people have no real tangible incentive to stay with the company.
Shell and others have specifically changed their pensions to address the movement seen from modern employees.

Yes unions still have a place in the workforce today.
A place to do what exactly? The market should dictate the cost of the labor not a union. Union workers are selling their labor, shouldn’t they be selling to the highest bidder if they provide a high quality service?

Because I get paid by the hour.

Achievement. It trumps almost any kind of compenaation. Especially if they are being compensated in a competitive manner.
They are far more interested in compensation rather than recognition.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Union labor is used all the time. It doesn't mean unions are necessary.
It baffles me that this is a hard concept to understand for grown adults.
I now understand why everyone is poor and the country keeps elected idiot politicians.

As long as you're not getting shafted on salary, yeah, some people like to be proud of their work. I'm one of them. Others just like to show up and get a check. It drives me nuts having to sit at work and do nothing.
I've asked multiple bosses if I can go home due to nothing needing to be done. They usually get pissed, and think I'm out of line. They'd rather I sit there for the 10 minutes of work that could possibly come along six hours later, and that could easily be done the next day. Then, they chalk it up to me being a millennial because of my age. In reality, it's just me wanting to be efficient and not bored.
I just don't understand why I need to be sitting at work staring at the wall for 30hrs a week, when I took on a 40hr/wk job. If I'm better at my predecessor's job than they were, give me something else to do.

Very true.
The 9-5 workday doesn't make much sense at all, especially with the ease of working remotely now. If something comes up, I can easily log on from home and accomplish the task with the same amount of ease. In the meantime, let me go mow my yard during the 1 hour of downtime at work.

I find that I can easily accomplish my daily work in 4-5 hours. I spend the majority of the afternoon goofing off in the office.

I strongly disagree that unions are the shite. Just wanted you to know that many places in and around the country were built by union labor. Mercedes Benz Superdome,Tiger Stadium,OLOL hospital, the new Children's hospital is being built right now. Oh we can't forget River Bend Nuclear power plant that helps keep your arse cool this summer. Yes unions still have a place in the workforce today.
Union labor can be a pain in the arse. When you are building a restaurant and cannot even move a table yourself on opening day, that is a problem. When contracts say only a certain number of equipment can be set in a day so workers spend up to 8 hours on a bus doing nothing, that is a problem.
Unions absolutely had their place in society and some still do work well but too often,I at least find, it just creates even more inefficiencies.

Who cares about 40 hours a week? I want to see this country move to 3 day weekends! I’ll happily work over 40 hours if I only have to be there 4 days a week!

I had this for the past year when I was working in the BR office. It was the best thing ever. I am back to 5 days in the field but I do get compensated greatly for it so they both have pros and cons...I was definitely just as if not more productive doing 4-10s instead of 5-10s.

I don't want to work from home. I want to work at work, but if there isn't anything to do, I always have better shite going on outside of work that I could be doing.
Sitting in a chair looking at the internet or watching YouTube is unproductive. At my worst job, I even had to spend mental power thinking about what to look up screwing around on the internet, because I had already looked up everything I wanted to
