So Will Smith gets to portray a black man that had violence used against him only a short time after he used violence against a black man?

he started shooting that film in Louisiana last year and well before the Oscars incident.

Yeah, I figured anything I would have said about that would have been downvoted and people would have defended that statement, but he said it like a true slave owner.

Smith would be a plantation owner today if things were the same except the times

Disturbing. Pretty normal at the time though, unfortunately.

Slavery has been done by and against every race throughout history. While some instances were worse (like the Ottomans and their making of eunuchs), what happened in the US wasn't too far from the norm throughout the history of mankind. Hell, all we hear about here is the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, but it pales in comparison to Arab-Muslim (ie: Trans-Saharan) Slave Trade.

How is it a lie? The civil rights act passed in 1965. White people just started acting semi nice 45 years ago. Do you want us to forget the hundreds years of terror?

 is that truly from whipping?
Yes. Black people are more likely to experience keloid scarring.

There was a Cops episode where a man (passenger in a stolen vehicle) had a weird bulge running all around his mid section. Cops made him get out and raise his t-shirt to show that he wasn't carrying anything under it.

Turned out to be truly heinous welts from a scar on his stomach. Cop did a double take, the welts were so big and pinkish-discolored that it looked like his intestines were hanging out.

He told the cops that it was "just a scar from a gunshot the doctors patched up back in Chicago".
Cops checked him for warrants and let him go.

No doubt the gent had been involved in a pistol duel back in Chi-town over his lady's honor.
And that he fully paid his hospital bill with coverage from his place of employment.

Everything we love about the USA is because...

According to his words, he tried to shoot everybody but says he doesn’t remember doing that. But that’s what they told him he did.

Another interesting footnote…the whipping came from an overseer (another slave) and not from the slave master.

Yeah. What we need instead is the 279th rah rah hagiography of WWII era troops and citizens!

How long do you expect white consumers, generations removed from this era, to keep paying to watch these gratuitous films about how shitty their race is?

How long will we carry the lie that slavery was exclusively black or exclusively American?

How long are we going to lie to black kids, telling them whites are evil and America isnt the best place on earth for people of color to thrive?

Just wondering. Because as far as I can see, we are on the brink of bringing back segregation and institutionalized racism in the woke era - and that's the OPPOSITE message that civil rights era Americans like myself were raised on.
There's never even been a biopic of Frederick Douglass - one of the most BADASS Americans who ever lived. The idea that there are "a lot" of "these" movies is preposterous. There hasn't really even been an MLK biography either.

Who would ever watch 12 Years a Slave (from nearly 10 years ago - so many of them!!!!) and think the message was "white people are evil"? The movie clearly portrays a black slave owner (female, no less) as well as a sort of white savior.

It's not our problem if facts are too much for you.

The stuff the Japanese did to the Chinese was pretty horrific. Nanjing Massacre.

Not really. Was a pretty mild response on my end. It just seems to be overplayed, but to each their own. I also followed up my statement by saying it may be a good story. It just seems to be all the current rage. Sorry for having an opinion, but I was not snowflaking. So thank you for singling me out.

Can you name me the last interracially casted movie made where the main bad guy was black? Since you want to talk about factual movies? Should we have more movies to represent all the crime committed by blacks against non blacks? Do we need to bring attention to this? Just curious if blacks are allowed to be the main villains anymore? Perhaps you can name me some, because I am genuinely interested.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter. These are simply observations and possibly opinions. It's not affecting me on some deep level. Certainly not worth melting over. It's really no big deal.
