re: Will New Orleans ever put a stop to the stupid homesteaders at Mardi Gras?

Eh, sleeping out on the route on St.Charles is not all that dangerous. It's pretty extreme and uncomfortable though.

His point about people taking up too much space to just get pissed at you for even walking through it is completely valid. People can be unnecessarily territorial
My solution is to just not go.

I hate seeing those empty chairs and tarps without people.

I’ve rarely caught flack for it directly but the couple times someone said something I just feigned ignorance and said no one was sitting there so they got moved.
What are they gonna do? Fight me with my 5 year old sitting on my shoulders?

Actually yes. Have you seen the trash that frequents parades? Especially in NOLA

Correct. I don't mind the "tailgate" setups especially for the longer days. But those that go drop their stuff and saunter out 15-30 min before the parade shouldn't expect the same treatment. If you're out there with a big setup it should be for family and friends to make a day out of it. Assembled 3-4 hours before the parades and taken down each night completely following.
I know the tents are "banned" but at minimum NOPD needs to have them situated no closer to the street than on the uptown-bound tracks.

Imagine being a grown arse man staking claim to a piece of government owned grass in order to have a better chance at catching Chinese made plastic trinkets
This thread is embarrassing.
You have “supposed” adults defending setting up tents and ladders to catch plastic objects.
That’s is a pretty sad level of pathetic.
Just another sign of people not being able to grow up.

The odds that he has been punched at a Mardi Gras parade are high

How can you possibly prohibit pets on the parade route? That’s actually insane.

I’d be too embarrassed to bring a tarp and a tent to a parade.

Approach them and tell them to leave.
Although taking the animal away from the owner would be a better move.

Oh, so you just wanna walk up at a moment’s notice and “have a spot” for your kid to catch a bead. Seems lazy.
Actually, yes I do.
Mardi Gras shouldn’t have to be this huge fricking production. I should be able to bring a small ice chest & a chair or 2 and catch a parade with my kid.

You can. You will just be at the back.
Do it all the time.

I have been to these parades, buddy.
Boxing out children has become a sport to the adults with these setups.

do we need to save you a parking spot within a block of st charles too?

Tents are no longer allowed, but they can't enforce it.

Prohibited Items
Open flames are prohibited at all times along the parade route.
2 wrongs don't make a right but watching those tents go up in flames is entertaining from a distance.
