Poor little Jaxon or Braxton can’t catch beads if his momma and daddy don’t get him 25’ of parade frontage. He’ll have all his gear on too!

I’m with you OP: Tent people are the worst!

It wasn’t that way because the pop up tent and backpack chairs weren’t invented.

Since then, it’s BS having a 10x10 tent after tent blocking space for 3-5 people. Last year saw a “family” that had 2 people the whole Saturday.

I would love for the city to roll down the street with a dump truck for tents over night. That would be a fun parade to watch.

Why can’t people just be normal and walk up and watch a parade with their family and turn around and go home?

Because:

You can get yelled at just for standing in one spot to check your phone if it’s too close to a row of chairs

People from out of town are worse than the locals when it comes to the tent entitlement.

Yes, a parade is designed to be something you just walk up to and catch beads.
So I shouldn't have stepped on that old lady's hand for a trinket when I was a kid?

The tent isn't for Jaxon. It's shade for his momma while she sucks down her Peach Nutrl's discreetly hidden in her Stanley mug.

I only want cups really. That's all I go for. Like many locally my cupboard is full of Mardi gras cups. I guess at least no one throws snap beads anymore.

I agree those are also of value. I like letting my kids have a bit of freedom to kind of run around with their friends for throws. Imo that’s MG from my childhood. Honestly they also seem to enjoy that and aren’t fans of being restrained to a boxed in area.

The wall of chairs that makes it impossible to cross the street on each side has to end. Its just insanity at this point.

One of my visits to Mardi Gras showed me how much of an issue this was. It was between parades and we were walking down St. Charles. It was about time to get rolling, so we wanted to get out of the street and onto the neutral ground. I didn’t care how far back I was, just needed off the street. I probably had to walk a hundred yards before someone would simply let me through to go stand in the back. It was an army of people with barricades and ladders wedged so close to each other that you couldn’t pass. Dare I say, it was a safety hazard. I was finally let through and the guy acted like it took an act of congress to get him to step aside and move a chair.
