I appreciate your heads up, but i'll stick with the medicine that is 3x's cheaper and comes in the same exact bottle for my terminally sick dog.

Thats cool. I just hope you dont get one of the counterfeit bottles/medication, or that their medication was stored properly.

I hate seeing animals suffer because their owners are too cheap.

End result was $975 for emergency visit last night and $3,200 more today for major surgery, and stabilize broken ribs, back etc..
at 4K plus a Yorkie is perhaps, pound for pound ,the most expensive meat in the world.

My take is the thing is 8 he had a good run, but over $4k is too much. Pour one out for a fallen homie and move on.

8 is old. Will this greatly affect the dog's quality of life?

The only time I was in a relationship with my current dog, I said multiple times quality of life is important to me, so if for whatever reason the worst happened, I'd have an out.

But the wife would definitely pay for the 4K. And i'd be cool about it. Her $$$, her dog, i won't tell her how to spend it. She doesn't tell me how to piss my cash away.

Sorry little doggie, you've had a nice run. Now it's time for you to go.

Bro, I pay ~95 for a month of Vetmedin and salix (furosemide) at my vet. I also buy enalapril at WM for about 6 dollars for my dog. Vetmedin/Salix twice a day, enalapril once.

I use the vet in Belle Chasse, great people and they're very accommodating if you have an emergency as well.

I spent 5k on my dog at LSU vet and they still couldn't save her after 3 overnight stays. I would have paid double if there was a chance but unfortunately she did not make it.

Average lifespan of a Yorkie is 13-16 years.

That's too much to spend on a dog, even if you have the money.

Why does anyone care what one pays for vet bills? I think people are stupid for buying hockey playoff game tickets for 5000.00 but it's not my money.

4k? That's too much on a human, let alone on a dog.

Look, I love dogs more than anymore, but when you are talking about having to stabilize broken ribs, back, etc in a small dog that is 8 years old. There is a good chance the dog will suffer with that for the rest of his life.

You should have told your wife it would be extremely selfish to keep the dog alive just because she doesn't want to be upset and that she will make the dog suffer until it dies, just because she doesn't want to be upset about the dog dying.

Get a new dog right away, in no time she will forget about the dog that died.

We have 4. I dropped 5k on chemo for the wifes dog. Will not do it for mine. You are doing it for your wife, not the dog. Remember that and spend accordingly

Pay the vet $100 under the table to tell the wife there's nothing they could do and the best course of action is euthenasia.

You framed your argument poorly. You will always lose the "is it worth it" argument, and it will make you defend a cold/heartless stance.

You should have argued about the dog's quality of life after broken ribs and a back. This makes it sound as if your are concerned about the well being of the dog after the surgeries.
