What do you think it would take to fix you up if you were mauled by a grizzly? Proportionally that's about what we're talking about here. You think the skill to repair is that much different? How about the instruments and equipment? You think there's some big discount warehouse with a bunch of equipment and drugs only available to vets?

The sold me Vetmedin for $120
Furosemide and Enalapril for $80
Those 3 items last me two weeks.
I go order the same exact stuff online for $90, and it's double the quantity the vet was charging. So i'm getting 4 weeks worth for $90, when the vet was charging $200 for 2 weeks worth, of the same exact medicine. They literally come in the same exact bottle, same mg amount.
So then buy online. I don't think it's a unique situation for different companies to sell the same product for different prices. Good for you that you found a cheaper alternative. Capitalism!

Then explain to me why I can get the same exact medicine online, for $90, when they charge me $400?
Just an FYI,
Pharmaceutical reps for vet medication dont sell to these online pharmacies. Vet clinics know how to, and are required, to store the medication properly which helps keep the integrity of the drug as well as prevent litigation on the drug company. Any vet medication being sold online got their illegally unless it is the clinics online store. There is no guarantee with the medication and you are taking a risk by giving it to your animal. Online pharmacies are known for switching labeling, not storing the medication properly, and its not regulated.
Example: If you give your dog heartworm meds monthly and your dog still gets heartworms. The drug company will cover the treatment for your dog. Online pharmacies will not do that.
Very few people understand that a majority of medications that animals take are the same things humans take. Just in much smaller doses. They are more sensitive to slight changes in those drugs given their size.

I got pet insurance for this kind of situation. It covers illness and accidents up to 5 grand with a 500 deductible. Policy costs me 25 bucks a month.

This is what I've been told. It sucks...but I don't bother risking it.

My dad would have shot that lap dog in the skull.
If it were my Cheeweenie I'd pay it

I'm famous in my family for giving the shot. My parents sleep with one eye open. Just get another dog, rescue of course.

Yup like I said. Fake labels/bottles, switch out medication, questionable storage/handling. You have no idea where these come from.
If you want to save some cash I get it on certain things. Heart failure medication isnt one I would want skimp on.

Yes there is a guarantee from both 1800PetMeds and Allivet.
From 1800Petmeds:
quote:

2.The same medications that are sold in your veterinarian's office.
3.The freshest products available because of our high volume of sales to millions of customers.
4.Our products and facilities are regularly inspected by state agencies and we're in full compliance.

If anyone is doing this, they wouldn't be in business anymore b/c that is illegal.

Yes they will.
From 1800PetMeds:
quote:
Heartworms:
If your pet gets heartworms, here's what's required for reimbursement of veterinary costs
Send us your bill for treatment of heartworms and we'll send you a check (requires 9 months of continuous use of heartworm product purchased from 1-800-PetMeds on the pet for whom the medication was prescribed. Monetary limitations apply).
You have any more nonsense you want to spew DVM More beer please.

Links above show this does happen. You want to assume everyone who's in this game is getting caught? Makes sense Bc our govt always catches perpetrators right?

Ok you clearly missed the biggest point of all of this. NONE of these online stores which include 1800PetMeds and Allivet get their medication from the drug companies directly. It is all done through illegal means. Thus there is zero guarantee with regards to the medication. They can put something online all they want. I have heard countless stories and examples of them denying it from the language they have online.

So every business that does illegal things isnt in business anymore. Solid thinking there.

Good lord, that guy was fricking you in the arse. 25mg of furosemide costs about $6.00 for thirty pills. Enalapril is only a bit higher.

are you trying to tell me that 1800petmeds, a publicly traded company, receives their product that they distribute illegally?

And you think the vet doesn't have language to get out of it either? I know how "warranties" work.
those cases of people being caught were selling drugs to big retail stores, which I would assume means PetSmart and Petco.
I have a hard time believing that 1800PetMeds can say that their products are EPA approved, then go buy products that aren't EPA approved, and sell them as EPA approved and simply say "my bad".

No because they dont have any "language" involved in this. If any medication does not work properly or does not prevent an issue (heartworm example), they cover it no questions asked. Pharm reps will even replace online medication bought by a client and reimburse the vet. Seen it happen countless times.

Considering that EPA handles mainly tick and flea preventatives that are in the pesticide category sure. FDA CVM handles the medication. So again that means nothing.

Everyone has language to protect themselves if they want to. It's just bad business to do so most of the time when talking about a small local business. A large online company might not give a shite about pissing off a few people. A local place can't always afford to piss of a few people.
I appreciate your heads up, but i'll stick with the medicine that is 3x's cheaper and comes in the same exact bottle for my terminally sick dog.
