Man I couldn't even imagine being such a piece of shite that I would do something like that. A public hanging is the only solution for people like this

Access door to gas tank locks if I lock my car.

I've always credited my wife's extreme awareness (seriously) to the fact she was born in New Orleans.

That’s probably true. For me it’s been working in our downtown area here in Louisville for the better part of 15 years now.

It goes the same for leaving shite in your car in general. I keep my wallet on my person when I pump and lock the car. At the park, I lock my purse in my trunk. Same with my laptop if I have it on me and have to leave it with my car for any amount of time. And I keep my head on a swivel walking around anywhere by myself.

Wait this happened in Texas? I thought crime only happened in New Orleans and North Baton Rouge.

This is called "sliding". They pull alongside acting like they are pumping gas at another pump, passenger gets out, slides up to passenger side, and opens door silently while victim is facing pump. Happens in seconds.

I found a gif:

Same. If we were to lock our doors, we wouldn't be able to access our Gas tank

About 15 years ago my cousin was pumping gas in NO East and leaned back into his truck to get some cash out the cupholder to go get a drink. A guy had slid into his passenger seat and was waiting on him, shot him in the face took his keys and stole the truck. The thug and the truck were found in Baton Rouge a few days later after he robbed a few more and killed an old lady. My cousin survived and had to have total face and jaw reconstruction.

When I pump gas I lock all my doors but leave my drivers side cracked in case of a quick escape. I keep my pistol in my waistband with one hand on the pump and one hand on my waist. Always have your head on a swivel.

And I remember the days when our family would leave the house and not even lock it up. I would argue with those that say life is better now.

I'll never forget my first year in New Orleans, I was on Canal Street by a very nice hotel mid morning and this very nice lady said," Excuse me, ma'm, but you're carrying your purse on the wrong side of your body."
I responede "Huh?"
She explained, "Always carry it on the side closest to the buildings, makes it harder for purse snatchers. And never, ever carry pictures in your wallet you can't replace."

I thanked her profusely.

I’ve seen video of how thieves ease up in their car and stay low, open your passenger door and reach in and get it....all the while the gas pumper is watching the pump ticker, hearing traffic noise, thinking of something else, etc.

A lady friend had her purse taken from her shopping cart as she leaned over to put groceries in the back of her SUV with the tailgate up. The car eased by and the passenger leaned out of the window, snatched the purse from the buggy and they drove off. They took cash and cellphone and tossed the purse at the far end of the parking lot. They knew the cards would be cancelled it seems. Damn crooks.
