Why would a jury summons be served in person?

Coworker got served “in person” and it’s stamped “served” on the summons.

Does this mean anything regarding the case?

I’ve always just gotten a letter in the mail.

Means they were actually served notice and a bench warrant could be issued if they don’t appear.

It means they have proof that it was received and the court can take action if they don’t appear.

They can't say they never received it. So they better show up

The last time I was called at least 2/3 were no shows. Apparently some judge got tired of being ignored.

I got one in Iberville. The deputy said they do it in person to make sure they know you received it

It’s a petit juror summons so criminal trial.

It varies from parish to parish. Jefferson serves them by mail. St. Charles sends the process server to your house so you can’t claim you didn’t get it.

That's usually for being a witness to something, I got served as a witness in a murder case years ago.

long story

I don't think they serve random jury notices.

I got mine a couple months ago. Wasn’t home the first time and the deputy left a tag on the door saying the sheriff office was trying to reach me and to call whatever number. Had my booty hole clenched thinking I did something wrong and I was going to the butt rape prison

No, a petit jury is what we normally just call “a jury”. Could be either a criminal or civil trial. It’s drawing a distinction between that and a grand jury summons.

Jefferson Parish used to do this. Some old bastard close to retirement would go out and serve jury notices. I haven't seen them do this in over 15 years, so maybe they stopped.

Sounds like they were mailed a summons and they failed to respond or claimed they never received it.

Served on one for almost a year, three days a month. Cool experience. Terrible lunches.
