I know the OT thinks this area is so great, but the traffic constantly sucks balls for a community that isn’t that big. The population of Covington is around 11,000 people and Mandeville is about the same. Covington is the worst, You might as well be driving through a metropolis of 5 million people. I never understood how they didn’t plan out their roads better to ease the congestion.

Not enough movie theaters. They were going to build one about 10 years back but I think they ended up renovating the theater at Canal Place

To many people with not enough roads and too many red lights.

because of the bottleneck that is the bridge over the bogafalia (how ever you spell it) river.

it goes from 4 lanes to 2 lanes at the bridge and back to 4.

That is it. You are basically stuck taking the main thoroughfares. There are very few back roads to take. In contrast, there are a ton of unconnected gated neighborhoods with no outlets.

Hmm. Few main roads. A bridge that bottlenecks. Subdivisions that don't connect. Poorly timed red lights.

It's like Baton Rouge, but with whitey.

Politicians pocketed the money earmarked for infrastructure improvements.

It’s really not that bad. Depends on where you are trying to go and when.

However what makes it bad at times is too few ways over the rivers. The main route is an interstate

Katrina also created an explosion in population that was not well planned for

Also there is a ton of unincorporated area that you are not accounting for population-wise

I'm just glad I don't have to be over there in the afternoons. My friends/co-workers that commute say it is way worse than Metairie/Nola.

I went down I-12 headed east early Saturday afternoon and was surprised at how much traffic was and how slow it was through the Covington area.

Most cities are built on a ever expanding grid. The neighborhoods are, but not really the main roads. Back in the day a bunch of hicks cut roads just to get from point A to point B. Once the growth kicked off, no one in parish government could see passed all the cash the extra people would bring. With out major roads being connected in a grid like pattern, the traffic problem is not fixable.

Yep. That's Baton Rouge.

I lived in Los Angeles for 3 years and moved to Mandeville afterward.

The rush hour traffic on 190 and I-12 between Mandeville and Covington is every bit as bad as LA traffic.

Distance is obviously shorter but the congestion is just as bad.

The I-12 is screwed because apparantly driving over an elevated roadway is just to complicated to do at the speed limit. That added to merging into traffic with a mile long merge lane is mind blowing. Every dipshit needs to get over ceossing a solid white line because merging in at speed would be to difficult

Bridges and infrastructure are needed.

People hate paying taxes.

Nothing to pay for roads and bridges.

Traffic is bad.

Welcome to Louisiana!

The river and limited routes over it. That being said if you are smart about the time of day and knowing what routes to take at them times it isn’t so bad.

Too many water ways, not enough bridges.....and the fact that Louisiana infrastructure is always about 10 years behind the population growth.

I can’t imagine having to commute from 190 or across the river in Madisonville
