Louisiana needs to learn how to traffic circle. Add some traffic circles in there and it will improve everything.

I left South LA in 1996 and every time I go back it seems like they are lost in the middle ages when it comes to highway/road construction, especially when I read these posts. I moved to WA 4 years ago and the ability for them to drop in traffic circles where ever they are needed is amazing. As my neighborhood and area expand they have added two traffic circles along a somewhat main road and are adding a "diverging diamond" on the interstate exit for our area. Bottom line, as jacked-up as this liberal state is, it certainly does seem like there is less corruption in the local government when it comes to expanding roadways for an expanding city. (city of Lacey, WA)

For the record, my side of the interstate only has stop signs and traffic circles. There are no lights. It is amazing.

Greedy developers, compliant good ole boy politicians, no zoning laws, homebuyers fleeing Nola who think the crowning achievement of a life well lived is to own a quarter acre with a house on it that looks like every other third house in the subdivision.

His comment was funny but people don’t realize Covington has a lot of black people. More per capita than Slidell actually.

Because every Yat from St Bernard moved there after Karina. I'm surprised they havent tried to rename every street and road around Madisonville after a Perez.

The population of Covington is around 11,000 people and Mandeville is about the same.

Some fun facts:

The population of Covington is near 11,000, but the Covington post office delivers mail to 60,000 people. 50,000 have Covington addresses, but do not live in Covington. Similar #s for Mandeville, Madisonville and Abita Springs.

In 1999 community leaders convened New Directions 2025. What would we like the Parish, based on population growth, to look like in the year 2025? The entire Parish went through a comprehensive re-zoning. However, we hit that population-projection in less than 36 months post-Katrina. No, we did not build infrastructure, regional sewerage nor a grid-like road system in anticipation of this disaster.

The major thoroughfares are not Parish or City roads. They belong to and are controlled by the State of Louisiana. DOTD is probably 15 years behind the growth. I-12 should have already been 6-laned (like Slidell / Denham / Walker are and like is being done Breaux Bridge.

I'm having great success with the new Hwy 190 "super street." Go 42 miles per hour and you catch one light, sometimes two. Rush hour may be different. Some people go faster, only to catch more red lights.

Preilim design work for the the Collins Blvd bridge (Claiborne Hill toward Hwy 25) is completed. DOTD must approve. Again, state project, not Parish or City.

The nation was built on the concept of private property rights. The 5th Amendment "taking clause" and 14th amendment "due process" are the reasons the Parish allows property owners to develop. The judiciary frowns strongly against government taking property owner's rights. If the Parish says "no," the developer sues, the Parish incurrs serious legal fees and it loses. It's a no-win for the Parish.

Western St. Tammany, like much of the northshore, is covered with waterways. As previously mentioned, there just are not enough bridges crossing all the rivers and tributaries.

Basically, due to superior public schools, natural beauty, abundant recreation, low crime and a growing cultural scene, a whole lot of folks moved here in the last 20 years ... and now they complain about the traffic.

I don't understand it either. Like where are these people going?. Same with seeing the line of cars trying to get on I 12 both ways on 190. It's backed up from the causeway and from downtown Covington as well.

I guess a lot of people live far as shite from work.

shite man, it took 15 years for us to learn how to avoid getting our feet stuck in the steering wheel when they moved the dimmer switch off the floorboard.

This is something I noticed as well. A few little bridges can really ooen up the roads.

One issue off the top of my head is the east and west and north and south limitations caused by the 3 rivers in the area. The tchefuncte, abita river and bogue falya.
It’s a triple monster for sure. you’ve got hwy 22 as the southernmost route connecting Mandeville and Madisonville, next bridge is I-12, then you’ve got hwy 21 that crosses the little tchefunct near st Tammany hospital, then the bridge near downtown Covington over the bogue falya, the the bridge on hwy 190 over the little tchefuncte again, and one more bridge over the Abita river over 190 as well. Glad I’m out of the area.

It took me 42 minutes to get from 12 down 59 to my office last Thursday morning. Construction at the Sharp Road roundabout had it at a crawl.
