Actually, installing a service road and bridge over the Tchefuncte would help immensely... it could keep the local traffic off of I-12.

You could even build them and not disturb I-12 traffic. Holy cow!

$100 says Department of Transportation Department never thought of that.
What are your assumptions regarding $$. You can't just put this idea in the microwave and out pops a bridge.

“We have a wheel barrel full of needs and a thimble-full of money,” [LA DoTD Secretary Shawn] Wilson said.

Ok build one giant 10 lane monstrousity across there.

2-3-3-2 lane structure

|__|___|___|__|

| Eastbound service | Eastbound 12 | Westbound 12 | Westbound service |

Just one bridge to build. Problem solved.

Why do the hwy projects seem to take FOREVER to complete?? I12 and the bottleneck bridge should have been high priority instead of dam round-abouts and J-turns here and there.

That could work.

I know it isn't the solution people on Three Rivers Road want, but they need to widen Three Rivers road and build a bridge to connect it to Pinnacle Parkway. It would divert the local traffic from the interstate.

You can get to Madisonville and Hwy 21 from Pinnacle. I am sure it will be met with massive opposition but it's one of the only solutions other than widening the interstate from Hwy 59 to Hwy 1077.

Brister has been pushing for the prioritization of the I-12 widening project since 2013.

The $36 million total application encompasses $25 million in BUILD Grant funding; $7.2 million match from St. Tammany Parish Government; and a $3.8 million contribution from LADOTD.

The project start date is to be determined after consultation with LADOTD.

I-12 will be widened to 6 lanes plus an additional lane designed for local traffic. These improvements will strectch from Hwy 21 to 190. It's currently in the design phase.

Longterm plans include extending this west to 1077 and east to Hwy 59.

The new "super street" designs in place on 21 and Hwy 190 are working very well.

Collins Blvd bridge over Bogue Falaya prelim design is complete. Three lanes north bound to Lee Rd, then tear down old bridge - replace with new 2 lane bridge.

Long term, replace each traffic light from Bogue Falaya to Hwy 25 w roundabouts.

All of this will take time.

For the record, my side of the interstate only has stop signs and traffic circles. There are no lights. It is amazing.

We are a poor state and as such local municipalities need a source of income generated . Nailing citizens for running stop signs and red lights is a very good source of revenue...and if people really learn how to use them there may be less rear end accidents as such, people like Spencer Callahan , Morris Bart, Gordon McKernan and the Womac would start losing out on money.

The problem is, just like in Ascension Parish, commercial development outpaces infrastructure by 12-1.

It's sad, comical, and fricked at the same time.

It has already taken "time". I'm guessing a "study" is in order for "feasibility" and "environmental impact"

BTW the first traffic circle on 59 is looking very good at Sharp. Your biggest problem though is the traffic generated by Fountainebleau High school and Junior High from 7-830 in the morning and 2:30-4 in the afternoons and the elderly brain dead traffic guard

1) I-12 is going to be widened. There's no debate about that. How there are going to handle the bridge remains to be seen. But it likely involves the demolision of one side and construction of a new, wider bridge.

2) That old white house is practically undearneath the bridge on the north side. The house on the south side is a little further away. I assume one (if not both) will be expropriated. I can't imagine the the state has a wide enough right of way at that location to complete the project.

3) Would a service road be considered a local road? Would that all be on St Tammany's nickel? Who is going to surrender their home for construction?

Not a service road per se, but the outer (4th) lane is designed for local traffic.

Cost is covered by Feds, ($25M), Parish ($7M) and DOTD ($3M).

This view is from the west looking east, correct? Is there enough space between the existing bridges to accommodate the construction or will land be seized to the outboard side/sides? The rendering looks like a completely new bridge. How long is it estimated to take to build it?

Is there enough space between the existing bridges to accommodate the construction or will land be seized to the outboard side/sides? ... don't know.

The rendering looks like a completely new bridge. How long is it estimated to take to build it? ... Don't know, but personally I find time estimates to completion usually to be worthless.

The house to the north was there (I think) when the bridge was built. Frankly, I would have been happy to have been bought out 20 or 30 years ago. I'm in Old Landing and I can hear the traffic. But, that having been said, it's a nice piece of property on the river.

Re: Construction Time Estimates

Maybe they're not perfect, but they give you an idea of what you're in for. Hopefully, they'll have substantial liqiudated damages built into the contract.

It doesn’t help that people entering I-12 heading eastbound from Pinnacle sometimes speed up and merge right as the lane ends over the bridge and almost cause massive accidents.

I think the initial proposals were to keep the existing bridge and add the lanes to the middle of it to keep traffic issues to a minimum.

That would be awesome if they could build a "center span" while keeping both sides open.
