re: Why is Louisiana obsessed with littering?

Matt Watson doesn’t like it either. Dude organized a crew to clean up the overpass at Sherwood/I-12 last week. I didn’t even know there was a sidewalk there now you can tell

I travel across the country for work. Louisiana doesn’t have so much the higher percentage of littering, it’s that everyone seems to drive a pickup truck and thinks it’s ok to leave trash in the truck bed. Do they ever wonder what happens to that trash? I can tell you where it goes.

We also don’t run our street sweepers except after parades.

None of these rednecks anywhere near me have ever been to Mardi Gras, probably don't even know anything about it, yet you could fill up a dumpster with the trash along the roads after just a short drive

Intelligent people don’t litter

by far the trashiest state in the country when it comes to litter.

By and large America is ahead of most of continental Europe on the littering problem.

One of our biggest problems litter-wise is that we have 200 rain days each year. The litter just gets washed down into the storm water drainage system, which puts it out of sight. And another huge problem is that, unlike pretty much every other state, we have no system for skimming the trash out of the ditches before it enters the waterways. It collects on the bottom of every marsh and bayou and flows out to sea.

This part of our problem could be solved with a statewide water system fee of $2.00 per month. Florida does it and it collects the trash from the drainage system before it fills the waterways.

Why don’t we use prison trustee road crews to pick that shite up?

private, and the influence of the poor in our state/country that don't own their own living spaces. they own things inside their homes, but they either rent, or are provided the rent to live in a place. they rarely own the condo/apartment, and certainly have no stake in the property at large.

the state/parish doesn't own a section 8 apartment complex, but it pays for it through the owner, who is barely incentivized to keep the place up. i wouldn't be surprised to learn that around the trashiest places we're talkin about here, there is tons of walk-up traffic from surrounding section 8 funded housing
