you forgot the 3rd part who thinks its an issue of the constitution which in *most* cases is the cowardly way of that person saying they are just happy the democrats "lost" at something.

Or those who think Roe was simply shite jurisprudence and needed to be struck down, while also being 100% pro choice.

On a legal basis, it's OK to kill this type of person, but not that one.

On a morality basis, it's immoral to kill

On a scientific basis, you are destroying a lifeform potentially sentient.

On a scientific 2nd level, by destroying the life you've collapsed the wave function in our existence for the life of a human, one that a full life with all its ups and downs is destroyed in an instant.

I'm not saying there's never a case for it...just not many with day after pills, etc.

It's like legalizing murder, though...millions of lives never happened because of it.

Its a big deal because of roe v wade. It became a national political issue and we get beat over the head with it.

If they were killing babies in california no one in lousiana would give a shite. But trying to push up to and post birth abortions on every one is where they went wrong.

Liberals cant see the bigger picture.

It all comes down to where do you believe life truly begins.

Some people believe life begins at conception.

Others believe life begins somewhere in that first month to 2 months when it first develops a heartbeat and some brain activity.

And then there are those who doesn't believe life doesnt begin until the baby completely exits the mother's womb.

Whichever one of these beliefs you fall under will completely determine whether you are pro-life/pro-choice, or somewhere in the middle.

it's been amongst the most serious and divisive issues for a looooong time

think about political candidates, they ALL have to have a defined position on abortion whenever they run for office no matter what it is ... it is like an automatic platform piece people expect to see.

there is a huge voting block, clearly, that votes on this alone

It’s not a huge deal day-to-day, but it’s one where both sides feel unequivocally morally superior, which makes it extraordinarily divisive with basically no acceptable compromise.

It isn't. Get off of social media and do not watch cable news.

Right or Left, I never got the obsession of this issue from both sides.

Pregnancies derail women's lives, especially if they're unplanned and/or with a questionable father figure. Permitting women to avoid pregnancy is a big deal for equality and equity.

OTOH, people see it as murdering babies. That should be self explanatory.

While the debates about abortion are polarizing, the left/media has also put out the major talking points and has a lot of people in a panic because of what this decision could lead to. Apparently Roe v Wade was not only a major "win" for the pro-choice crowd; it was used as a basis for many other decisions. As a result, there is a large group of people worried about what's next.

I have seen statements about the right using this to go after same sex marriage and woman's ability to use birth control.

Also have to keep in mind that it's not going away. Democrats & the media need to keep this as a hot topic in the media for another 4 1/2 months to get through mid-terms. They will also use this as a basis why they need to stack the courts

"no state shall deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law."

I submit that a fetus is more of a person than many animals that roam the streets.

It's not if you are okay with innocent children dying because their parents were selfish and irresponsible.

Right there with ya. In a sane world abortions don't even exist outside of rare circumstances.

Even at the height of my teenage dumbassery hook ups, I never dropped the boys off in the pool because I knew my future would be over. Birth control and condoms are so accessible now that it is even more dumb to think people are just raw dogging and relying on abortions to take care of the consequences.

I also think abortion is far down on the list of priorities facing life. Let's focus on improving the living conditions of the children already born first.

Go take a drive through trailerhouse rural America or the inner city ghettos and see how kids are living there. Now imagine injecting more unwanted kids into these living situations that are already untenable, not to mention the added burden on the state and us, the taxpayers, in a futile attempt to take care of them.

Just a shitty situation all around. There's no legislating the problem away.

It’s a big deal because “reproductive rights” and “women’s rights,” not that we are allowed to define what a woman is these days anyway.

It’s also a huge deal because it involves morality, life/death, and religion.

Should we be aborting 20 week old fetuses? No.

Should we outlaw abortion from time of conception? Probably not.

If your wife, daughter, sister, or mother was violated and became pregnant, should they be burdened with carrying their rapist’s baby?

There should clearly be exceptions. Mississippi doesn’t have exceptions to its bill, and to me (as a husband, brother, son) that is scary and dangerous.

The answer to the OP is because their is huge money to be made by the power leaders in both parties on this topic.

Huge money for the religious leaders championing the cause along with the politicians in their pockets and then huge money for the pro choicers.

If there was no money in it, this wouldn’t be an issue.
