Take a five-minute detour off I-10/Michigan Ave to Brookley Field and see what is becoming the third largest assembly facility for commercial aircraft in the world behind Seattle Washington and Toulouse France.

This celebration of Miss is silly.
They are ( still ) last in nearly every category.
The tax burdens ( including income, sales, excise and property taxes ) put L and Miss well in bottom half of overall tax burdens.
This probably comes from the best part of the state (MS Gulf Coast) being close to New Orleans and along I-10. Outside of that and a few other areas (Jackon's eastern suburbs, Memphis southern suburbs, and Oxford), Mississippi is a dying state.

Demographics have consequences.

If LA had bottomless strip clubs it would climb the ranks.

Every Louisiana politician has the best interest of their own wallets in mind and not the will of the people. Lobby groups rule this crooked state with an iron fist.

Corrupt politicians seeking bribes who cannot see the benefit of creating a tax structure to attract and keep businesses. They lack the long term thinking to know that make some concessions on the front end they will see far more benefits on the back end.

I'm sure this number goes up during boom oil cycles. I remember Louisiana being 20th-something for State GDP 10 years ago.

GDP per capita isn't really a good metric for resident well being.
Median income, cost of living, education, etc are going to be better measures of how well state economic activity actually transfers to its populous.

Read my comment above. GDP per capita doesn't tell the story for actual residents.

You can't but that shite one just one politician. Its the whole system in this state. It doesn't matter who the governor is, if the whole system isn't gutted it will always be the same ole shite. It doesn't matter if a republican or democrat... or independent is elected.
Nothing gets done in this state unless an elected official is getting paid. Anyone who wants to build something here has to end up hiring some elected official's relative as a contractor who will get paid for doing next to nothing then they turn around and give their elected official relative a percentage of the payment.
Its all a bunch of unnecessary red tape established so elected officials can have power so that people will pay to avoid red tape. It happens at the local level and up.

There is bad PR over decades about Mississippi. It's the most business friendly state in the USA. Great regs and easy permitting are what make a state business friendly more than not having an income tax.

Wouldn't it indicate that there is opportunity there for those who wish to earn it? It's not like La has loads of mega billionaires skewing the numbers.

True story…
In the 90’s Nissan was looking for a place to build a new plant. They were interested in the area around Delhi. They had a business park and were willing to make a lot of promises to get the plant built there.
The Nissan reps flew into Monroe, loaded up into vehicles and headed off down Highway 80.
They didn’t make it to Delhi before the drivers were asked to turn around and return to the airport. Once the Nissan folks had boarded their private jet and left Monroe, the translator shared what the Japanese gentleman were discussing during their ride.
They were surprised at the amount of trash in the ditches. Supposedly Nissan had a theory that trash thrown out of vehicles was a direct link to a lack of education.
They just didn’t believe the workforce would be smart enough to build a dependable vehicle. And they were probably right.
They built the plant in eastern Tennessee
