If you want Louisiana to be prosperous you need to bring in smarter residents to raise the temperature a bit. That’s basically it.

Since we live in cancer ally, I’ve advocated that we give huge tax breaks to any oncologist, pharmaceutical research company and other doctor adjacent jobs that deal in cancer research and treatment.

Those people emphasize education and their kids will do well in school. That brings up our education scores. Those jobs also pay well which will bring in service workers to provide services for those people.

Just an idea.

Mississippi doesn’t belong in this conversation. They have lapped Louisiana and made significant strides in improving their state.

Corruption
Systemic/systematic oppression across the board

Edit: Oppression of majority of the citizens. Im not referring to race or class. Even though millionaires deal with oppression also.

Mississippi has that "Good ole Boy System" at play and doesn't care to invest more in industry and technology

Amazon is breaking ground on a $10b data center project in Madison County. Massive growth in plants(Milwaukee,Toyota, etc) are happening as well. I think MS is on the right track.

This is a very interesting take and one I would tend to agree with.

Louisiana has essentially never had anyone in charge that put the hood of the people over their own good.
That’s why so many people
Liked Edwin Edwards. He at least helped the state WHILE helping himself..

It's not the "reason" but it did a lot to hamper other things. EWE did an untold amount of damage to the state by focusing so hard on that, while other Sunbelt states were actually developing and growing productive industries. Even Mississippi was able to sort of use that to help foster other things.

We can’t give them a competent workforce. Our local and state govts are dysfunctional. Our schools in many areas are crumbling. Our highways are litter filled gravel roads. We won’t build a new bridge to save our lives. Our people are unhealthy and hard to insure without increased premiums. Our infrastructure is minimal. We have a large percent of our population thinking that STTDB is a great chant. Any city that MAY be able to provide employees is also a crime filled jungle in many places.

And overall our residents are stupid, which is obviously the much larger issue than any particular government official.

Can’t really expect the government officials to be any better. Until they get elected they are just a part of the stupid residents.

Can’t ignore the elephant in the room, especially when it is standing on your foot. We have a very sizable segment of the population that actually despises intelligence and knowledge and refuses to be educated. They vote and elect their own kind of stupid to office as a standard.

Sounds like you are just making assumptions based on ignorance.

Whoever chose to revitalize Mobile needs a raise.

I drove through Mobile four times this year (taking care of family down in Florida). I am VERY impressed with the city (even though I spent the night in Saraland) and see why it may be a best-kept secret.

Hey, getting Amtrak to pay for rail infrastructure - while keeping the number of empty and useless trains to a minimum - should earn someone a bonus.
