Why don't people in Louisiana riot when we win sports championships?

I used to randomly wonder why only certain other places would, but it seems like it's now more the norm than the exception.

I've witnessed three LSU football NCs (all actually IN New Orleans) and, of course, the Saints Superbowl. All you ever got in New Orleans was people going into the Quarter to celebrate. No real incidents of any sort whatsoever.

I see people pointing to other places and suggesting it's a "race thing" in those places, but that doesn't really seem to jibe with how non-violent the celebrations have historically been here.

What sets this mentality in other places versus here?

the Saints Superbowl

My favorite night out in New Orleans of my life. Nobody was messing anything up. Everyone was just happy and celebrating. It was refreshing.

I think there was a documented rather statistically significant drop in overall crime in the city during the entire run up to the Super Bowl win.

Heck you can probably find the bourbon street video of people running out of the bars to dance on bourbon street when the Saints won the Super Bowl. No police cars burning. We didn't riot when they stole the NFC championship from us. I don't understand why the police aren't read with water canons and riot gear to shut that crap down.

This is the answer. We are way better at it than most places in the world really. Even Mardi Gras when the city gets flooded obviously things happen with that many drunk people in one place but overall it is pretty smooth. New Orleans does that ever year for the last what 80 years or something.

Because we are smart enough to know that once the excitement ends and things are destroyed, you really f'd yourself and neighbors over with the destruction.

Bingo...when they tried to have Mardi Gras in other cities (other than in Bama) it has been a total shift show.

Our fans and police all know how to act in a big party, we have done it since birth
