What’s funny is I know some people that have literally been to over 30 countries and practically all of the states, and they still cherish and live in NOLA.

I lived in Dallas, city of transplants but I am sure in certain areas there are people who never leave.
In NJ there are towns that are exactly the same as new Orleans

Maybe because New Orleans is a lot of fun and people are clearly able to make good lives here? You act like everyone is on the street begging. I have dozens of friends from here all with loving families and got good educations. Plus the food, night Life, Mardi Gras, proximity to your Alma mater (mostly popular is obviously LSU and tulane). This board loves to shite on New Orleans. So many places are transforming and becoming soulless, New Orleans has thank god, stayed New Orleans.

well i sure as hell dont want to go anywhere near those weirdos in california or any other liberal cuck state and anywhere you go outside the country is filled with terrorist immigrants so where is there to go, kansas? why the hell would you want to go there? maybe a trip to the caribean islands is about the only place i would be interested in visiting

It's like that everywhere. I live in western WA state and a few weeks back I talked to a 40 yo guy who'd never even been over the mountains to the eastern part of the state. I don't understand it but some people are fine like that. The worst place I've seen is Oahu. Obviously being an island is limiting but I met natives who claimed to have not left their neighborhoods for 10 years. And it wasn't uncommon.

This. I used to work at a ship yard for a while and everyone seemed to all live within 10 miles of the place. Their parents, grand parents, cousins, etc worked there too and when you got to talking to these people, they seemed like they had never lived anywhere else and never planned to.
I don't think it's really a bad thing because a lot of it has to be about wanting to be close to family. So many just care about making money and will live anywhere, but they seem soulless at times.
If you've never lived anywhere else, just try not to act like an a-hole though and judge other states, cultures, etc.

I know a few people there that are very talented individuals and could make way more money if they were open to moving, but moving is simply not an option.

Over all, the median distance Americans live from their mother is 18 miles, and only 20 percent live more than a couple of hours’ drive from their parents.
The biggest determinants of how far people venture from home are education and income. Those with college and professional degrees are much more likely to live farther from their parents than those with a high school education, in part because they have more job opportunities in big cities, and especially if spouses are juggling the career aspirations of two professionals.

I was born and raised in Nola. I’ve traveled, but I never find a place that feels like home like NOLA. I know this board shits on the city, and I recognize a lot of the problems. But at the same time I like that New Orleans isn’t perfect.

On the subject of moving, what do the people who have elderly parents think about living 1,000 miles away? I love my folks and like to visit with them every other weekend.
My inlaws live 2 miles away and we love having them close and the kids have enjoyed it.
Mine are having health issues and I've had to leave work to go meet at a hospital once and I've cooked meals to bring over to them when sick.
Is it just acceptable to say put them in a retirement community and go about your own selfish life?
