It's a pretty fun place that has a lot going on all of the time. New Orleans is home to some of the best food, music, and festivals in the world. Just about any great musical act comes through there eventually, and every great play comes to the Saenger eventually. Assuming one is making enough money to afford to live in a nice area in the city, they can pretty much do everything they'd want to do on a daily basis in the city.
TBH, other than experiencing mountains, beaches (which are just a fairly short ride away down I-10), MLB games, NHL games, and traveling for traveling's sake, what can't you do in New Orleans that you can do in other cities?

They most likely spent their childhood in NO...went to LSU and thought that was for enough...then scattered home.

Most of the New Orleans people I met at LSU were absolutely miserable in Baton Rouge. They spent all of their time playing x-box and complaining about how much BR sucks and is devoid of anything to do, but the only places they ever went were Tigerland and the Mall of Louisiana

I've been in New Orleans 27 years. Don't hate it, don't love it.... just have my business here and my kids grew up here. For the record, I have encouraged all of them to move away. When I retire, I will also.

Believe it or not, but Baton Rouge, despite not being New Orleans, has a pretty nice original music and arts scene and a ton of festivals, and lots of really nice bars that are not located in Tigerland.
The problem with Baton Rouge is that one actually has to look for these things in order to find them. In New Orleans, you don't have to try at all to have fun, but more try not to. Baton Rouge requires a little effort and a little bit of getting to know the locals. Most kids from New Orleans simply aren't willing to put forth that kind of effort.

Why do peope live in brown houses? I had a brown house for 4 years and painted it as soon as I possibly could. People who live in brown houses either don’t get out enough to know there are other color houses or are too poor and lazy to paint. Idiots.

I’m a New Orleanian. Lived for almost 15 years elsewhere (Dallas Metroplex and Baton Rouge area). And have been to 48 of the 50 states in my lifetime. I came back because I really didn’t like living other places. Being back in New Orleans the last two or so years has only strengthened my initial decision to move back. There are serious problems here, but I’m now back to a place where one civically motivated to make a difference. I never felt that dedication elsewhere.
