Lord forbid that people love their family and want to be close to them.
Many of us, me included, have traveled. I've been to Europe twice and enjoyed it. I lived in Mexico City and enjoyed it. I've visited, admittedly as a kid, all around this nation. Even now, I visit other places and immediately find things to like, that's my nature.
But when I cross back into Louisiana, and hit the first potholes in the interstate, I'm immediately comforted that I'm "home." What a poverty it is for grandchildren to see their grandparents only once or twice a year. It's a poverty and a privation for both parties.

There are some who leave. There are also some who think New Orleans is the center of the universe and still frequent Fat Harry’s and Grits well into their mid 30’s.

Its culturally unique, great food, events, festivals and until recently a low cost of living.

I know people who can't even fathom living somewhere else. Not because they made a conscious decision that they love it here more than some other place, but because the very idea of living somewhere else does not compute. This is the most accurate thing I’ve read here on TD in the 7 years I’ve been lurking and posting here.
Every single person I know who has moved away from Louisiana is in a much better place in life now.

Meh. Ive lived in major cities in the country and around the globe to include London and DC for many years. I moved back to NOLA by choice and am glad I did. They key is finding a way to make enough money here to have the life you want. I did that by moving away and then negotiating a remote work situation later...

Motherfrickin' this!! I moved to Dallas for work and my co-workers act like I'm an alcoholic b/c I associate almost all holidays, events and special occasions with drinking. I tell them that's just how it is at home and I get a concerned look

I said this too when I moved away. Why would I tell someone that my life sucks? I have the mirror for that.
