My SO and I flew BA from DFW to Heathrow and back three weeks ago. DFW international terminal D was much easier to get through than Heathrow terminal 5.

Completely agree, Amsterdam’s airport and most European airport (operational, security, boarding) is so much better.

For instance, in Amsterdam airport you put your checked luggage into a robotic screening kiosk and it spits off a bag tag for you, no rude customer service to deal with. Walk to terminal and enter security as you get in your gate, those who sit in the back of the plane board first to ease boarding flow... that shite is just common sense.

I'd be happy just to find phone chargers attached to every seat.

I'm not defending our airports in anyway but I would bet that Atlanta Hartsfield sees more traffic in one day than western Europe cumulative sans Heathrow.

Because none of those airports have gone through 9/11 and beurocratic NSA employees enforcing government imposed (many proper) security measures.

You could not possibly have connected internationally through Heathrow and made this post. Walk about a mile, then wait in line to take a bus, then go through two separate security screenings (with lines), then wait with the crowds until they decide to post your actual gate less than an hour before the flight (might as well wait in the line for the WC while doing this). The worst clusterfack of an airport I've ever come across.

How long does it take on average to check a bag and get to a gate in an American airport?

I've gone overseas for 2 weeks and didn't need to check a bag. Stop packing like a girl.

It depends on what airport you're going through as others have said. I fly through ATL pretty frequently and it is pretty impressive, Delta is in the middle of a renovation in their domestic terminal. Denver is very nice, etc. The vast majority of US airports were designed pre-9/11 and there aren't too many that have been remodeled since to reflect changes in security policy. 99% Invisible has an interesting podcast that talks about airport design pre and post 9/11 you might want to check out. Other than that, I've found PreCheck and Global Entry to make my life 100x easier when flying.

I'll also go on the list of those who hate CDG, terrible airport.

Any airport that utilizes bus's as a mode of transportation (even to the rental car center) is on my shite list.

I would say most American airports are better than most European airports. With the exception of AMS, Europe is a shitshow.

Yes I’m flown through Schipol a couple times. It’s very nice but that’s the Netherlands largest airport & city! The next prob being Rotterdam but it’s small country so hard to compare to US

You seem to think our problems are the result of too little corporate welfare.
