I have been through most international airports in western Europe, and a handful of the in the east. I flew out of Vienna yesterday and made it from walking in the door to sitting at the bar across from the gate in 10 minutes. When compared to any airport in the States it is embarrassing. London, Paris, Amsterdam, etc. all light years ahead.

In my experience the only poorly operated/designed airport in Europe is the Berlin Airport.

When looking at our major airports it couldn't be more night and day. Why have we decided that our airports need to be poorly designed and a nightmare to get through?

all the problems i have ever had in a stateside airport can be attributed to the TSA.

One thing European airports don't have to account for as much....parking of personal vehicles.

Because we don't pay 90% of our income in taxes. Fair trade off imo

Are you talking looks or ease of circulation and access?

Because most airports in the USA are built in gradual increments which just adds layers upon layers of access.

It's probably a lot easier for smaller countries to put more effort into their one international airport than for the US to maintain 30 of them.

We also have way more minor airports than other countries do as well.

Fly into a European country's smaller airport and report back what that looks like. Many are just concrete boxes without central air.

I feel like you're comparing BTR to a major metro airport and saying BTR is so much smarter. Volume makes a big difference.

Which airport is VIE?
VIE is officially named Vienna Intl., and is located in the city of Vienna. Over 88 airline carriers fly approximately 187 flights per week.

Even London's airport is small by comparison to Atlanta.

Every day at Heathrow 1,400 flights take off and land – one every 45 seconds and nearly half a million per year.

I'm not saying US airports couldn't be improved, I remember missing a connection in Phoenix because they had no quick transport between terminals other than the conveyor belt sidewalks. But what is it that you think the international airports are doing so much better that US airports could learn from and duplicate?

Europe is made up of 50 countries with a combined population of 740 million people.

It's roughly double the population and half the size with less restrictions and more money.

The USA is one country that is double the size and half the population with more airports and more regulations.

There's also been a couple of mass shooting in European airports this year. I'd rather wait in line for an extra 15 minutes than get shot, but hey, that's just me.
