Are there really professional bank robberies these days? Every time I see a perp on the news, he looks far from professional. I would think that anyone with the smarts and organization to do it with any regularity would spend their efforts elsewhere.

They occur all the time. And the video usually shows the robber in a bammer shirt.

I had a relative who was vice president of a major bank.

The precautions they have nowadays, stealth alarms are insane.

It really cant just be walk in with masks and guns, you need people on the inside. Authorities usually know that, and the people who would be on the inside, know that authorities would know that.

Your best bet for a large sum of cash is robbing the owner/runner for a busy bar the morning after a weekend closing.

Texas Monthly has a a hell of an article about a Houston area guy who masterminded robberies of armored car guys who were filling ATMs. They just shot them with a rifle, so the guard’s vest didn’t stop it, and swooped in to grab the bag, and gone in seconds.

They got away with it and got a lot of $$$$ for quite a time. Then somebody inside leaked. It still required some damned good police work to prove it.

Bank robbery is federaal crime. Check out the minimum mandatories for armed bank robbery

This, the armed part fricks you. I read an article not long ago about a guy who made like 600k in 6months or a year by walking in with a note saying please give me all the cash or something. Taking the cash available from the tellers then getting out.

The trick was not having a gun or threatening the teller with violence. That will get you a lengthy prison stay and the tellers are trained to give it up anyway.

He ended up getting caught on his 25 th bank and only did like 2-3 years.

The bank in Chatham was robbed 4 or 5 yrs ago, they still have not caught them. Dont know how much money they got away with.

I was asked to leave the parking lot of a Chase bank one morning. I was waiting for them to open. I guess it was the manager came to my truck and asked what I was doing and if I could leave until her coworker got there so they could open the bank.

Where ya gonna spend the cash too? Serial numbers will be flagged, business depositing it once spent get visited, their info on customers gathered...

Now they also have micro GPS tracking RFID type cash inserts too. In the areas with helicopters they just launch straight up with unit turned on, you're location with the money pings...All units converge on xyz call goes out.

There were 6 bank robberies in Baton Rouge last year. All 6 were cleared with arrest of the suspects.

Last year was unusually high. Baton Rouge normally only sees 2-3 in a year.

To give some perspective, there were 83 total business robberies last year. I am not releasing the clearance on those, but rest assure the majority were cleared.
