Even in the day and age of heavy video surveillance, I don’t understand why these don’t occur more often.

Doesn’t seem too hard to get a burner vehicle and an easily removable disguise.

They wouldn't get very far in BR traffic.

Bank's no longer keep that much at the physical branches and the punishment is almost always the worst scenario

The tellers don’t have access to enough cash to risk going to jail for an extremely long time and they have silent alarms that alert the police that will get there within 10 minutes.

What are the stats for bank robberies these days?

Probably more frequent, but more getting caught.

The clearance rate for bank robberies approaches 100%. You're better off robbing a casino. Hey there's an idea.

Bank robbery is federaal crime. Check out the minimum mandatories for armed bank robbery

For one, robbing a bank is a federal crime, a restaurant or gas station is local/state.

Further, banks have done a lot to prevent robberies with training of tellers, etc. whereas a restaurant, with its transient staff, is a much easier target.

Nonetheless, I highly recommend watching the 1970's classic Dog Day Afternoon, one of Al Pacino's best.

I tried to withdraw 15k in cash once last year, and the local bank couldn't do it.

I think it's the Capitol One building now down town, but it has a safe in the basement that holds lots of cash. You have zero chance of robbing it though.

In Louisiana, bank robbers get 99 years if convicted at trial.

Thats about 40 years if you behave.

Armored trucks is the way to go. Hell there’s a dude on FBI’s top ten that still hasn’t been caught after 15 years.

This is actually not remotely true. Bank robberies are not publicized by the bank or the police for obvious reasons.

Bank robberies are more common than you would think.

It is true that they don’t normally keep large amounts of cash. An average bank in an average area of a city of 100k would not have more than 20k at peak time without specifically having a client request it.
