Yep. The vast majority of bank robberies are note passing. Bank employees are trained to comply with robber to get them out as fast as possible. They are also trained to not say a word to media. Banks do not advertise that they were robbed.

Nope. I worked at an average bank in a metropolitan area of 50k and we had way more than 20k during slow times. 20k per teller maybe.
But a robber isn't getting all that. They're getting less than $5k, bait money, and possibly a dye pack.

LINK Riverbend robbery armored car 2007
This was a crazy armored car robbery back in day.
Riverbend / Carrollton area.
Blocked street. Blasted car as it delivered cash to bank. Had multiple get away stolen vehicles. Straight movie type stuff.
Don't think they ever got caught.

Banks in and near my hometown get robbed all the time. I know a few people who I suspect have been a part of a robbery.
It's pretty easy in a rural area with all the backroads, seasonal roads, atv trails, etc.

Assuming it’s an armed robbery, it’s 10-99. I’ve literally never seen someone get 99 years on an armed robbery. And you serve at least 75% of an armed robbery sentence. Depending on prior convictions, you might serve it flat.
Anyway, bank robberies are almost never armed robberies. Literally every one I had ever handled was billed as a first degree robbery (making the complainant believe you are armed with a dangerous weapon when you in fact aren’t). It carries 3-40.

Banks have a lot more security and eyes on it. Way too risky. They have small time guy, gets a few bucks from tellers, hauls tail, caught pretty quick as you cannot out run a radio, and that person goes down for along time. Some are too stupid and brag about it.
Easier to knock over a check cashing place with less security than a bank and more money. Less risk, less prison time, and higher reward.

I watched a Forensic Files from a bank robbery in Missouri I believe
The robbers stole money by catching the manager who got there like an hour earlier than everyone else
Killed him by tying cinder blocks to him and throwing him in the river while still alive

I say this in these threads all the time, but you can rob a bank through the drive thru in 2019. Seriously, tellers are trained to comply even in that situation.
Also, you've got to be a next level moron to use a weapon or threaten the use of a weapon. It's completely unnecessary.
All in all, it's still not worth it.

Post Wild West era bank robberies have been for desperate characters who couldn't get money any other way. The smart criminals were into organized crime: booze, gambling, whores, dope, union rackets and other shakedowns.
As police tech grew more sophisticated (ever notice kidnapping for ransom has disappeared?) bank robberies were more and more for hopeless cases. Today it's mostly crackheads who don't care anymore. Less desperate characters sling dope.

Best ones I seen where people stole a decent amount of cash is restaurants. Mostly small mom & pop ones with less security.
The manager opens door for workers in morning and they just slip in before most of the employees get there. Quickly get cash and run. Less risk and the camera video is typically poor.
