Probably not. But do you think those kids in India could pick out Michael Jackson in a lineup?

It’s all about brands in this discussion. Jordan had a bigger brand than Jackson. Which both fell short of Ronald McDonald in the 1900’s.

If we are going to include sports figures, then the answer is obviously Muhammad Ali.

To me, it’s gotta be Johnny Cash.

I mean isn't it Hitler? I'm not sure he's a "star" but probably the biggest figure of the 20th century.

There are just so many of course to choose from but that one was my first thought. Biggest event of the century was WWII

Edit: see he was brought up before but that was my immediate thought.

What about Picasso? A little different

One of these is easily the answer IMO. Elvis is the most famous person of my parents’ generation. Ans in mine it has to be Jordan or MJ. And Gun to my head, I think it’s prolly Michael Jackson. That dude is known in the farthest reaches of the globe. It’s insane how famous he was. Even moreso than Jordan who brought the NBA to a global scale. And given that MJ was alive later than Elvis when news and information (aka television and the internet) were broader than ever in history, I give him the edge over Elvis.

Absofrickinglutely. Jackson was pervasive far more than Jordan. Not close.

Elvis.

He may not have been the first pop star but he broke the genre wide open to the masses and influenced a generation (eg, the Beatles) who influenced the next, etc.

I forgot the stat but the number of song downloads and resulting royalties his family gets each year is mind blowing.

You forgot about Babe Ruth. In his day, he was way more popular than many of those guys.
