I actually bought all of my ex-wife's Louis Vuitton purses. However, it wasn't real housewives shite, it was the daily bag, the fancy going out bag, the more casual small bag, and I think one more, over about a decade.

*I* was the one that insisted she buy something at La Maison (the mother Louis store) in Paris. I know how to tell a cheap arse Louis (hint, start with the strap, especially if it's canvas) from a good one.

How is she spending $20-30k a year and keeping it "hidden?" Good for you if y'all can afford it, after the 401(k) is funded, the 529s and HSAs are full, etc. The problem is, that's not usually the case.

I collect cars, guns, and watches.

I'd save a shite-ton of money if I started collecting purses, but I dont GAS about them,.

He mentions that its her money and they make about the same. I can't speak for her but the IRA and all that comes out of my check before it hits the bank.

While you can't take it with you, if you're able to be comfortable enough to purchase things you enjoy while also putting money back then have at it. My parents saved what little they had to renovate the house and travel after retirement. My Mom died within about 3 years of retiring.

Id never marry a woman who liked high end designer items. shite, just travel to Italy or Greece and get a hand made leather purse that is nicer than Hermes for a quarter of the price

Oh no where near that much. I would say she buys 1 or 2 a year. Just over the years she has collected about 14 of them. Mostly LV. She will sell one every now and then. To me that’s a collection of uselessness.

At least you're getting food from your fishing/hunting hobby and not just dropping 4k to hold your wallet.

This is not typical, even in upper incomes. 40% of households making 300k a year are living paycheck to paycheck (I know it's an orange to kumquat comparison, but living P2P means there have probably been excuses made to "pause" savings contributions (you know, just until we pay off Christmas, etc, all the usual excuses.)

I don't disagree, but the alternative is not buying a lake house for the family to enjoy or to rent out, not taking trips to interesting places in business class, etc.

Men have a different perception of value when it comes to stuff like this. He drops $2k on hunting gear for the season, but he says he uses it every month at the deer lease, while one of 20 purses may get pulled out twice a year (I don't hunt or fish, just based on observation of others.)

This is funny. Hermes is another level, for sure.

My wife has one. We aren't rich by any means but we have some friends that are from HELLA wealthy families in DFW. My wife's purse broke before we went out one night. We happened to be at one of these friend's mother's houses and she asked my wife if she needed a purse. She brought up like 5 and my wife goes "oh no these are way too nice to borrow, I'll have (my name) carry my ID and stuff." Lady says "I'm not crazy about any of these, just take them"

That's ok, she probably wouldn't marry you, either.

If she earns her own money and likes Louis Vuitton, what's the problem?

Not everyone shops at Wal-Marks.

My wife has had several for years. Just sold one for a good bit more than she paid for it. Better than some of my stock picks.

Lets be honest, the equivalent could easily be investing in luxury watches (which we know men do that are throwing around similar money). And if you take care of a luxury bag it can absolutely be passed down like a luxury watch can.

Sure. Which is why I asked in an initial post if it's a case of putting them in debt or money that they don't have to play with. Given some of OPs comments, I don't think they're in that situation.

And perhaps it’s an original “only” vs mass made initials. I do like the LV bags, just can’t justify the cost. The economy mustn’t be too bad because the local store often has a line waiting to enter.

For some people, absolutely.

What a nightmare this would be to have to deal with

I can’t imagine being so “stuff” oriented seeking validation from other equally
Vapid females about a stupid purse and what designed it is
