How early do you need to get there for a decent spot? Are there still people around that you can pay to save a spot. Is it necessary?

For normal amounts a 529

For large gifting consider a Trust. Cost a little to set up and a tax return is required but distributions can be at the trustees discretion and it can last for an extended period.

I think the current portal date was in large part trying to allow the transfer student the ability to enroll in the spring semester. Problem is it doesn’t work.

The clientele from the LA area really turned me off last time I went. I don’t really want to pay money for a vacation and hang out with gang members.

They are trying to give a net transfer portal ranking which would be nice. Problem is they have very little to go on unless the incoming or outgoing player has played a lot.
