Aside from those already mentioned, Richmond. Protected riverfront with class iv rapids within city limits. Reasonable drive for day trips to the mountains or beach.

We have the exact same thing here in Columbia. And our river with class IV rapids isn't just in the city limits, it's downtown.

I know a lot of the outdoor activities aren't in the actual city of Denver but I would consider anything less than a 45 minute drive from there to count as an outdoor activity for the city.

Some of the smaller cities in CO (and by "smaller" I mean smaller than Denver, i.e., all of them) have lots of outdoor activities within the city limits. For example, some of the best biking trails in Co. Springs are right in the middle of town in Palmer Park.

Denver is awesome, I can't wait to live there possibly in the very near future.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess your world has never existed outside of a 50mile radius.

So what do y’all like about these cities? Being able to hike around them? Don’t delude yourself that you cankle having husky baws would hike more than once a year if you lived there

The mountains is no place for a beer guzzling baw. They think they'd love hiking until they actually have to go up a mountain and get short of breath from the elevation, which would be enhanced with a beer gut and having not lifted a weight in years.

Asheville, Chattanooga. A place like Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids in Michigan is pretty good too.

Possibly enjoying the outdoor activities surrounding Austin more than those surrounding Denver

Austin has a ton of outdoor activity options without having to leave the city. We have some of the best urban parks around, the Lady Bird Lake hike/bike trail, Barton Springs swimming pool, several green belts, Auditorium Shores, bike paths around the city where you won't get run over and/or mugged, etc. Now it's hot as blazes about 6 months out of the year (although as I type this it's 50 degrees outside), but we get plenty of opportunities to get outdoors.

SLC >> Denver

Denver is a good haul from actual mountains/trails and definitely skiing. By that I mean, the nearest great hike from Denver is a good 45 minutes in NO traffic (rare, though). Skiing is MUCH further.

Salt Lake City is 15-30 minute's drive from some nice mountain hikes, and 45-60 minutes from some phenomenal skiing.

Yep , other than extremely limited or total lack of
Hiking/backpacking
Biking
Snow skiing
Rock, and Mountain climbing,
Kayaking
100s of miles of ATV, Jeep, horseback trails on public land.
Great weather

New Orleans is right at the top of outdoor wonderlands along with Seattle, Portland, etc.

And it's really not that close. Salt Lake City has to be the perfect outdoors city. Just about every imaginable activity within 30 mins of downtown.

Same with Seattle, you can get off work at five in the winter and still have time to go ski, or hike and kayak in the spring/summer

So is Richmond’s. City limits in Richmond is a pretty small area. Richmond exists where it does because that’s the fall line of the James River.

Hood River, Oregon....lots of outdoor activities year round that are local or within 45 min.

I imagine lots of smaller cities that could be in the argument. Some fit others better depending on the activities you enjoy.

This, especially near the coast or any major mountain range. Small enough cities not to have overwhelmed the natural features of the surrounding area.
