Austin, TX. Obviouly one of the best rated nightlife’s in America, countless festivals, music, etc.
Best BBQ in Texas
So many state and national parks and things to do within an hour of the city.
uh...there are zero national parks within 7 hours driving of Austin. It's much better than most people are used to, especially for casual recreation, but it's still behind the pacific northwest or even denver when it comes to outdoors.

While I agree with most that Denver and SLC are in a league of their own...I believe to get the best balance you need a medium size city. There are some gems up New England way that I haven't seen mentioned yet like Burlington, VT, Portland, ME and Cambridge, MA. Another good one not quite New England is Madison, WI.

Probably not the best all around, but Chicago's lakefront is one of the coolest features of the major US cities.

The mountains is no place for a beer guzzling baw. They think they'd love hiking until they actually have to go up a mountain and get short of breath from the elevation, which would be enhanced with a beer gut and having not lifted a weight in yea
Of course elevation will kill a Coonass, just as humidity will kill a mountain man

Spokane, Washington. And you can end this thread right now.

If by “outdoors” you mean hunting and fishing, then my answer is Shreveport.

Tough to end it when Spokane isn't even the best example in the state much less the country.
