When you see someone in the neighborhood who doesn't fit the "demographic"

Wondering how many people on the OT think its appropriate to go and question people in your neighborhood who don't look familiar?
We live in a nice neighborhood that is probably 95/5 white to black. Our black friend came over yesterday (late 30s, VP of a large company, great guy) and was wearing gym shorts and a saints T. When he left and walked to his car, some dickhead from the neighborhood who was taking a walk, decided to come over to him and sarcastically ask "Can I help you?". Followed by questions as to what he was doing in the neighborhood, etc. He answered the initial question but just ignored the rest and left so that he didn't get heated. He said this kind of thing happens from time to time, and he just tries to leave quickly so that it doesn't incite him. It is obviously something that can get someone worked up and you never know who the next Zimmerman might be.

As long as your friend doesn't start slamming his head into the concrete sidewalk, your friend should be fine.

You need an armed neighborhood watch.
We take shifts on the golf cart patrolling 24/7

I normally take pictures of them from inside my house and post them to the neighborhood FB page with the caption "Be aware of this man walking around the neighborhood. He looks suspicious."

The guy out for a walk should be more careful, you never know who the next Trayvon will be either.
How did you handle this situation BTW?

Sir, that's the UPS delivery guy. The shite you see on Nextdoor, simultaneously entertaining and infuriating.

I just wave to everyone driving through my neighborhood. If they're a neighbor or a neighbor's guest it's a nice gesture, if it's someone who isn't supposed to be there they at least know one person saw them and could possibly identify them

My neighborhood is very inclusive. We mandate no race can have more than a 50% split of the homes. It’s very progressive, but it makes for such a unique culture. My neighbors are always strapped, so you know the neighborhood is safe from outsiders. And a lot of my neighbors are entrepreneurs, they’re always being visited by customers, even late at night

I probably live in a 50/50 neighborhood. Mostly professionals.
We all know when someone is around who shouldn’t be. No one wants their shite stolen.

Maybe if he answered the guys questions and said that he lives in the neighborhood people would stop asking him.
I'm not someone that would go investigating because someone looked "out of place", but I also know our at least recognize most of the people in my neighborhood.

I called the popo's on some dudes driving around my neighborhood scoping out my driveway/open gate, they drove by a few times really slow. They didn't see me in the front yard staring at them.
If they weren't acting suspicious, I wouldn't have batted an eye though. They obviously don't live in my neighborhood, and my street is not a common cut through.
ETA: This was the one and only time that I did this. I had sketchass people walking around my house all the time when I lived in New Orleans and not once did I feel threatened.

They're usually tourists. I just smile and say 'hi.'
