Go.

I got picked for a murder trial. It was the third trial in a cold blooded murder in Houma.

I've never been asked but I honestly would love to. Get to skip work to sit there and judge people and learn about the justice system. IDK why it intrigues me so much but it does. Maybe one day...

I was on a Federal jury back a few years and the Judge must have been pissed that day because he sent Marshals to go pick-up 3 different jurors who didn't show-up.

They made the 3 sit in another pool that wasn't as far along as we were so they ended up having to sit there at least another day then if they had just showed up.

There was a period of four years where I was called every 8 months. On the fifth call I complained to Mona that my boss was getting pissed about it, when they call you they pretty much keep you for a week. So far they have not called me in 5 years. My wife (no pics) has never been called in 20 years.

Dont know about jury duty, but up in El Dorado our lab did a few drug screens. Judge would order 3-4 of the lab people to come to court every so often. I got to where I just didn't go. (I didn't actually have anything to do with the collecting or performing the test, I was just the boss). So two officers showed up one day to take me to court. I talked them into not handcuffing me and letting me drive my own truck. Anyways, I never skipped again.

Call and say you are sick. Say you can't make it. Etc.
Assuming a human actually answers the phone, they've always just told us, "okay."

I personally think jury trials are pointless. I have been, and those people are not my peers, and I am not theirs. North Fulton and South Fulton might as well be 2 different continents.

I'd prefer professional jurors, or some other solution. Allowing any moron off the street just seems silly.

Just show up the next day at the exact time. Inform them they you got your days mixed up. You'll have to fill out a form stating such and that stops the warrant process. HOWEVER I'm sure you'll be on the short list for the next cycle. Probably better to just go do your civic duty.

They can put out an attachment for your arrest.

In Jefferson Parish they start out by hitting you with a contempt fine (about $100) which they will waive if you agree to put your name back on the list and show up the next time they tell you.

I've been summoned 4 or 5 times after moving to Dallas in 2014. I threw every single one in the garbage.

I live and work in far North Dallas. Jury duty is in downtown Dallas near Trinity River. You have to sit in morning rush hour to get down there, they don't pay for your parking, you sit for hours with nothing to do.

I'd rather be at work. If it was more convenient, I'd do it.

Maybe when I'm retired and have nothing else to do, I'll appear.

Oh, never got in trouble and they stopped sending them to me. With the state of our postal service, it's not a stretch to believe I never received them.

All you have to do to be dismissed is ask the race of the defendant.

Some countries use a panel of judges as the "jury". I think I would much prefer that due to the general level of intellectual decline we have here now.

I liked jury duty. Job paid my regular pay and told me to keep the check they gave me. Only drawback was missing out on overtime.

It depends. I was a law clerk for a US District Judge in Texas after law school. If you no showed she sent the Marshall's to arrest you bring you to court so that you could explain to her why she shouldn't throw your arse in jail.

Fines (sometimes up to $1,000) and/or. Jail time (usually up to 5 days maximum)

Do you then still have to serve on jury duty? If the court case is more than one week, then $1000 or 5 days in jail might actually be the better deal, assuming you don't care about a record.
