What’s the penalty for skipping jury duty?

Wasted a whole day Monday sitting in jury selection for a personal injury trial. Got me wondering what happens to the folks who ignored their subpoena? Are they charged a fine? Do they issue a warrant For them?

For some of us, a phone call beforehand handles up on this bidness.
Sorry you’re not some of us.

Depends. Could be all of those, nothing, or worse. Depends on the judge and your explanation when you’re caught.

Missing jury duty is generally classified as civil contempt. Penalties for missing jury duty can result in contempt of court, which may be punishable by: Fines (sometimes up to $1,000) and/or. Jail time (usually up to 5 days maximum)

It's very serious
basically, it's not optional once you're selected as a juror
skipping the selection day, that's not optional either
just go, it's actually pretty interesting

theyll send you more jury duty subpoenas until you skip on the third or fourth then theyll stop. there will be no legal consequences.
someone who isnt me told me this from first hand experience.

Two to five sessions of waterboarding

Typically I throw them in the special filing cabinet, and if ever questioned will say I didn’t know.

Go.
I got picked for a murder trial. It was the third trial in a cold blooded murder in Houma.
The murder occurred on July 22,1981. The victim as Rick Brian Whitener. Two POS brothers and their friend killed this man over a woman.
The killers were Craig Patrick Smith, his brother Carey Smith and Jesse Manuel Trevathan. The brother caught a lesser charge and was paroled. Trevathan was released in the last five years or so because he was 17 when they killed the man. ( ain’t that some shite). He’s living the good life now and the man he killed is still dead.
Craig is still in prison and ain’t coming out. I was on the jury.
They should of all rode the chair. Bunch of punk cowards.

I’ve gone every time I’ve been called except once when I legit wasn’t gonna be in town. Called the judge and he said no problem.
I was just curious as to whether they actually did anything to the folks who ditched.

I did jury duty on 9/11. When they flew bush to barksdale, they put snipers on buildings in shreveport.

Unfortunately one of the judges with whom I had connections was dismissed from the bench. I know the new judge who took his place, but she wasn’t presiding Monday.

People love to get out of jury duty, and then complain about outrageous jury verdicts. Somewhat ironic.

I understand our time is precious and that jury duty is one of those tasks we absolutely do not want to do. But when I am called, I go. Because if I was on trial, I would want my peers to judge me. Would not want my peers to be ditching on me.

Man you have no idea how many times I’ve been subpoenaed. I’m at a point where I really want to skip and just tell them to look at the records and see
How many times I’ve participated. That’s gotta count for something.

Go back and read my first post in thread. I added some stuff to it. Maybe you can put a punk away for life like we did.
