Mount St Helen's eruption and the Reagan - Carter election campaign - both in 1980. Also have vague memories of the Rams - Steelers Super Bowl in January of that year and a few other personal memories. I don't think I have any memories of the 70s.

NBC news cutting into my cartoons to announce that Reagan was shot. I ran to my mother telling her and she was mad they cut into children's programming to announce it

I remember a car with a loudspeaker on it going around our neighborhood and telling us about the RFK assassination.

Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. I watched it live in my school in a large group setting. The whole lead up to it that day was reviewing who was on board, including a teacher, as a historic notable event. Was very devastating for everyone to watch them all die right after we got to know each astronaut. I was 7 and remember it all vividly.

The first thing I saw on TV was a really grainy rebroadcast of Queen Elizabeth's coronation that had been flown from London to NYC where the broadcast originated. (A neighbor had bought a TV set just to watch it and she invited us to share, and that, too, was memorable).
After TV sets became a bit more common, the news I remember from stopping at Flo and Russel's house was that the Korean War is over (not that I knew what it was, but it was a big announcement on a TV broadcast out of D.C.

Probably something before this, but the one that comes to mind is Sputnik.
Yes, I am old. I am 70 and plan to get older.

I recall earlier sporting events than I do news reports.
Earliest news report probably was Jimmy Carter election and how my Dad picked on my mother for voting for him.
I don't think she has voted Democrat since.
