I was 8 yrs old and remember this happening on Live TV.

Everyone in Village St George was glued to their TVs, just happy to see this piece of shite in handcuffs and back in Baton Rouge to face the music.

But what happened next was unexpected and beautiful. And it turned a local news story into an international headline.

The Challenger explosion. We watched it, or maybe a replay of it, in my pre-school classroom.

Elvis' death. I remember hearing it on the radio as we were turning on to our street in good ole tilman's corner. Mom stopped the car.

Probably either the Howard Johnson New Orleans sniper because we had just moved to Louisiana after my dad retired from AF when it happened or Watergate.

These two, and the Rault Center Fire, stand out.

Viet fricking Nam…

Also, remember hearing a lot about guerilla warfare on the news…astounded me that Gorillas were fighting wars..

Oh, and Watergate. I hated watergate…my afternoon kid shows were preempted by watergate
