My friend's dad had an issue with armadillos in his backyard, so he rigged a motion sensor in his yard and hooked that up to a light in his bedroom. The motion sensor would go off and the light would wake him up, he kept a 22 by the back door so he could sneak outside and kill them

Didn't have a condom in high school one time, so I used saran wrap and a rubber band. Best 23 seconds of her life.

AC Compressor on car went out in August while on a date.
Took some wooden wedges I found on side of parking lot and beat them in between compressor pulley and compressor clutch. Work so well I left it in till the next spring.

Maybe if you added the word "American" in the middle, you wouldn't sound so racist.

My first car was a 1985 Mustang GT convertible. I had a very tough time keeping my foot off the peddle, naturally. I was hot-rodding after school and jumped a curb dinging the edge of the gas tank... pinched it basically. Has a slow trickle of gas dripping at this point. Panicked, I gave in and called my dad. He calmly said "find you a bar of white Ivory soap and run it across the leaky crease really good." I was like yeah right. Worked. Sealed it completely. Worked so well I rubbed it on the tank for about a month until we had a chance to have someone drop and fix the crack.

In the military myself and two others checked in together.

We wanted more room for activities, but didn't have the connecting pieces for the beds.

Ended up using JB Weld and stacked two of the beds.

Luckily wasn't my problem because I kept the single bed.

Ended up working though.

well for the last 8 years it was known as an "obama" but that has since changed back to the original terminology again

For me, it was something with my driving equipment in my van. When I first got the equipment, in order to convert it so an "abled body" person could drive, there was a pin that had to be pulled out. You had to have the wheels completely straight in order to remove it or put it in, it was a pain in the arse to convert (they eventually upgraded the equipment and there was a button instead of a pin).

It was Christmas Eve, one year and something happened to where the pin fell out while I was trying to back out of a family member's driveway. When it comes out, the system gives you a warning with like 50 seconds to pull over or stop.. Or whatever you can do at the time. We put the pin back in and I was going to try to drive it home and leave it there until the place that worked on it was open. As I got on the road, it fell out again. With a piece of cardboard and duct tape, we were able to secure the pin, probably better than it originally was.

I used a box cutter to cut a piece of cardboard thin enough to stabilize the pin and was able to keep it in place while one of my cousin's was able to wrap it in duct tape to the point it was almost impossible for it to come out. You would have to actually see what we did to truly appreciate it.

Hooked a fuel pump to the rear taillights in a rv. I bribe down on the interstate couldn't hear pump. Ran wire to it and was good to go.

Second best. Had a really old volvo. Changed motor. Couldn't figure out fuel injection idle settings. So I rigged an idle button. When I needed car to idle I flipped the switch.

In college we had a dryer that didn’t work unless the button stayed pushed in. Naturally it didn’t want to stay pushed in. So whenever you wanted to dry something you had to get a hammer. Head up toward the controls. Then place a gallon of paint on top of it so the can would lean on the button. Bless the family that actually bought that pos from us.

Weld on my lawnmower deck broke. I took a few l brackets and drilled holes in the deck, then holes in the piece the deck used to be welded to, connected everything with the L brackets. It held up for a few more seasons, then I got a new deck.

It is jury rigged. "Jerry rigged" is used, but it's normally "jerry built" the difference is that jury rigged is improvised and jerry built means it was built using inferior materials.

After Gustav we were without lights and water for a week or so. The National Guard sent a group of guys to come help our fire dept with distribution of supplies, etc.

They were housed in the gym and had porta potties. But after working 18 hour days in the heat, a shower would be most appreciated.

So we hung tarps around some metal poles in a outdoor walkway to give total privacy. Then we brought the fire truck and used the fire hose to make a giant shower for them.

They said the water was warm and the water pressure was awesome. Enough to knock a guy down.
