It's the same reason they teach each other how to cheat the system... no respect and greed

Black guilt.
I read an article from a black guy who said he tips really well and he hates that a lot of black people don’t because he doesn’t want to be thought of that way.

Every group has their own stereotypes they try to break

I waited tables in college.

I would have fought you to the death to wait on an Asian table. Usually ate family style, always ordered things as they came with no special instructions, always consolidated item requests instead of making me run back and forth 47 times, never wanted to split the bill, never argued charges, and always left a generous cash tip. Yes, they got my best service and attention not because I like Asians more than other races, but because they were good patrons to work with.

I'd have preferred to chew my own arm off than wait on a black table. Special requests galore, ridiculously complicated drink orders that were never right (half pineapple, some orange juice, malibu, some of that hypnotic, cherry juice, you can bring me more cherries, etc.), always splitting bills down to the cent ("no I didn't have any spinach and artichoke dip, take that $0.76 off my bill"), not wanting to be charged for that extra side item you requested, or arguing that it never came out at all, and as always, that fateful phrase, "You can keep the change" that means you just made 3 dollars on a $77 bill because he gave you four 20s. No, they didn't get my best service, and I hated waiting on them not because they were black, but because they were a huge pain in my arse with few exceptions.

Come at me. Call me a racist, I don't care. The proof was in the low tip and all the bullshite you had to put up with. Not worth it.

That was almost a decade ago, and yes, I'm still mad about it.

o which came first

Blacks tipped poorly so the service declined to them or

Blacks got bad service so they tip less

I think we all know the answer to this one. Even if I get bad service I still know that you’re supposed to tip (I hate it, but that’s how Things are unfortunately)

nah, i don't think they would increase by much, if at all. if they did, people would just stop eating out, which is probably a good thing

I can see why you're upset. This is why I support gratuity charges for orders over $50.

I try to tip well. Especially if I have cash. But here's the catch, your order amount will usually dictate the tip.

Example, I usually get orders ranging around $20 to 25 . A tip of 5 would meet the standard rule. Why should I tip more.

Honestly, I'm white as can be and make decent money and have 100% stopped ordering sodas at restaurants and have begun ordering less booze.

Restaurants rape you on that shite. $2.75 for a fountain Coke? $6 for a pint of beer?

This. For the restaurant folks claiming paper thin margins, I just don’t fricking buy it. Unless your ownership is incompetent, considering prices of bills I’ve had to pay lately, I don’t see how the house shouldn’t make at the absolute very least 25% profit on a table.

High Mark ups: Soda, Alcohol, desserts

Terrible margins: Entrees

Restaurant profits are no where near what you think.

Then you should look into details of the business more before openly displaying your ignorance.

I wish someone would do a similar study regarding how long it takes different races to complete a transaction at an ATM.

While they are at it, I would also like a study on which races are more likely to complete a a transaction at a convenience store, receive their change, and then ask to buy something else.

Racial differences in tipping create numerous problems for all involved. Most notably, the observed black-white tipping difference has been linked to the delivery of relatively inferior service to black customers.
Of course.

I wouldn't have been irritated at $5 on a $20-25 bill. If the service is good, or I'm feeling generous, I'll tip more.

20% for me is a starting point. It can go up and it can go down.

A young gent at the liquor store, accompanied by his large girlfriend, bought a 12-pack of cheap beer and some Newports. He handed the clerk a wad of bills and a pocketful of change.

The clerk counted out the correct amount and slid a couple bucks of change back.

Young gent (to girl): "What that gum you be liking?" Her (sweetly, grinning), "Juicy Fruit". Gent (to clerk, like a boss): "Gimme 'bout fo' fi' pack of that Juicy Fruit gum."

That gal walked out smiling like he had bought her a dozen roses.

God, I loved seeing that.
