Andre The Giant might debate you.
in a real fight andre would jave killed any of them but remember wrestling is about showmanship and marketability. flair was much more alluring tob the ladies.

More of a general wrasslin business question. I used to watch Mid South Wrestling as a kid. Did those same guys wrassl in other parts of the country like a in a circuit? Ted Debiasi (sp?), Paul Orendorf, Junk Yard Dog, and a bunch others.

Andre was a ladies man too and had his fair share of conquests. His character didn’t need to talk about that like Flair did though.

The big names traveled more frequently, under card guys would only travel after they'd worn out their welcome with the local crowd. Could take 6 months, could take 6 years.

But bigger stars were probably doing work for other promotions at least once a month. Especially going to Japan. There were guys who traveled to Japan weekly, would run 2 shows, fly home and run 2 shows. Rinse and repeat.

edit: Find some Jim Cornette videos on youtube where he talks about the history of the business. He is pretty cantankerous when talking about modern wrestling, but he knows the history of the business better than maybe anyone currently alive.

Ernie Ladd

It's a shame Ernie peaked when he did. Had he been a decade or two younger he could have been HUUUUUGE in WCW and/or WWF (leading up to and then during the Monday Night Wars era). The man could work a mic like nobody's business and if you don't believe that, "you better call somebody!"

Junkyard Dog. He even has some Louisiana ties. Unfortunate death.
