Yep. Being close to the gulf, and heavy forests to the north and east, we can't escape the humidity.

The heat and humidity finally broke me. After living in NOLA for about 15 years, I had an intense love affair with that place for the first 11 or 12 years. Then I realized... Oh yeah.. I hate pouring down with sweat from the time I wake up until I go to bed every day for 6 or 7 months out of the year and not wanting to be outside because of unbearable heat and humidity, aside from torrential downpours, flooding, hurricanes, and tornadoes. The weather coupled with the violent crime / too much cultcha' made me move way outta' state.

Left for training. Family and I were potentially looking at NOLA but carjackings were up like 700% at that time and we said no thank you.

Cost of living is ridiculous
My property tax is much higher than the any state I’ve lived in before and higher than the state I’m moving to next.
I bought 18 qts of oil & 5 gallons of antifreeze. The tax was $24. 10% sales tax is crushing
Then there is car insurance costs. I won’t belabor that.
I can’t even afford home owner insurance on our home. With the premium costs and stupid high hurricane deductible. It made no sense
Rip off, Superior Tire in Mandeville. Brought 4 trailer tires and rims to them. Off the trailer. To be mounted. And a 5th to be patched. $246 to mount my new goodyear tires. They’re a ( Goodyear dealer ). It took about 25 min. I now do all my tire business in Bay Saint Louis.
The tales go on …
Departure date imminent, not set yet.

I left because my girlfriend got a job in Houston. We were married a little over a year later. I doubled my salary leaving BR. I did take a step back but they were paying me more and I eventually became the manager.

Moved a couple years ago for work opportunity. Has been great for my family. Miss my extended family/friends, but I can drive back in half a day.

My son moved to Park City, Utah. Tried to convince my wife to move up there also but to no avail.

Left Louisiana for Texas as a young man for better work opportunities.
Left Texas for another state after the work opportunity no longer needed to be tied to a location.
Hate Texas. Louisiana is just in shambles.
Wife talks about missing home (Louisiana), but the only way I’m moving back to Louisiana is if I get a 7 figure job that allows me to work remote for most of the year.

Far from being rich. He works at Deer Valley. We've vacationed there a few times and he never wanted to leave.

Graduated LSU with an EE degree and had 7 job offers outside of Louisiana in the software industry. Moved out west for my first job for a large aerospace and defense company and transitioned to a large tech company after two years. As an EE, and SDE, it would have been career suicide to stay in Louisiana in my industry.
