Three years ago, a late-night fracas landed a state judge, Steven Tureau, in the mud and trash behind Swamp Chicken Daiquiris, a Gonzales bar. Now, Tureau faces judicial misconduct charges over the incident, accused by the Louisiana Judiciary Commission of misusing the prestige of his office and conduct unbefitting a judge. Tureau, who has served since 2020 on the 23rd Judicial District Court bench in Ascension, Assumption and St. James parishes, has admitted he crossed the line in a dispute with Michelle Lee, part owner of the Swamp Chicken.

Sounds liked he and his wife had a little too much liquid courage.

Well, the Swamp Chicken is now under new ownership, so he may have gotten his way.

Swamp Chicken is in unincorporated St Amant. Gonzales had nothing to do with it. If this is happening, it seems he is on the wrong side of someone. He pretty much inherited his position from his Dad and both have had a long time to make enemies.

Swamp Chicken? Is that some kinda prestigious Louisiana country club? Did Napoleonic law factor into this?

Let he among us who has not had a drunken late night fracas in the mud and trash behind the bar cast the first stone.
