I had an organic chemistry professor who, on the first day of class, pointed to a girl sitting in the front row and said, “You were here last semester. Didn’t quite make it did you.” I switched to a different section that afternoon rather than listen to some old a-hole belittle people all semester.

Anyone have that Royster Hist professor at LSU? I took as an elective. Dude would stop and stare for 30 seconds.
As I get older I realize that they are obviously insecure individuals. They get a power trip from college students. Some of those students were walking from Ceba. Also at least they showed. How many people went first day and test days only?

My advice to students that experience this is to get over themselves.

a notch above arrogant or rude or dumb students

What does a college professor have to be arrogant about? Many of the ones I have known were losers in life. Many can’t make it in the real world job market and hide in academia.

I like them really arrogant, and awfully rude.

I had an arrogant dipshit professor...
It was foggy as all hell one day... like you could literally only see a few feet in front of your car.
Couple of students showed up 5-10 minutes late and he went apeshit. Told them to get out since they don't care enough to get to class on time.

You seem to have an inordinate number of stories on this topic.

I had a professor like that. Ran his classroom like a damn prison. He'd ridicule you if your answers were especially off. He even kicked you out of class if you didn't dress in business casual clothes.
He made the LSU internal audit program the #1 program of its kind in the world. The opportunities I got then, which lead me to where I am now, came from that son of a bitch.

My girlfriend was in the CIA program. I’ve heard a lot of stories.

It seems weird to be that angry about tardiness. When I was late, I skipped the class altogether. Being late would have been the more responsible thing to do.

couldnt make it in the real world

Had this a-hole who always bragged he was the smartest and most popular professor, but he was really a clown. The dude made up wild stories where he was always the big hero. Constantly called anyone who dared disagree with him a loser.
But I eventually got my Tr.D. from Trump University. Only 97 more payments!

Aren't you required to rate and review your professors after each semester? We had to fill out a page long survey at the conclusion of each course.

This is the arrogant and rude college professor speaking.
First, this is not junior high or high school. The rules are different. Get used to it. It is one of many adjustments you will be making throughout the rest of your life.
Second, some of us did not function exclusively in the academic environment. In addition to being a clinical professor, I am also a practicing clinician, as well as a clinical intern supervisor at a local hospital.
Third, the coursework is more challenging. It's university level. It's supposed to be.
Fourth, when you sign up for a course you make a commitment to that course. You hear lectures from someone who knows a hell of a lot more than you on the subject and I do not read from the text. I supplement it with my own expertise. You are expected to read the text as both lecture and text are on the exams. If I see that the class is not participating on a level that they should be, you bet a pop quiz will be happening. Sometimes that's the only way to get you off your arse and on your toes in the course.
Fifth, I am not going to spoonfeed you politics or religion. I find that those topics have no relation whatsoever to the course at hand. Also, I am not going to spoonfeed you the material or the exam. I am responsible for presenting the material and relevant points, but it is solely your responsibility to do the learning.
Finally, there are no safe spots, or warm puppies to hug, hot chocolate, or coloring books. Again, none of that relates to the course. Sometimes the course may include information or theories that you might not like. The university setting is supposed to be a place of free academic inquiry and exposure to points of view other than your own. If you get offended that easily, you probably should not be in college. No one has a "right" to be in college or a "right" to a degree. Attending college is a privilege and the degree is to be earned. Earning that degree will require a lot of hard work on your part, and from time to time some sacrifices. Ultimately, when you are attending college the coursework is supposed to be your priority. That self-discipline will take you far once you leave college.
We want you to be successful, but you have to work for it.

Back in my days at Princeton we had this crazy arse Professor, he came to his 8 AM lecture in his robes and slippers. He was a smart guy knew his stuff, but a real weirdo.
Anyway first day he tells us how his class operates and says that he only gives pop quizzes on the days he comes into class through the window (his classroom was on the second floor) we all laughed. About 2 weeks in we're all sitting in class waiting for Dr Baker to show up, when someone notices a ladder being propped up to the building, yep Dr Baker fixing to climb in through the window, pop quiz time.
I’m thinking about using Dr. Baker’s techniques in my classes
