I don't have snowflakish tendencies.

I approve of being on time and such.

But arrogant professors who push their views on you.

Well, if you're so much smarter than the rest of the class, why don't you give us your opinion?

BTW this is a rip-off of a Dr. Ho line from LSU. Electronics.

My go-to for this conversation was David Johnson, Econ Professor at LSU. He's since passed away so I can't bad mouth him.
Econ was my jam. I had the highest grade(over 100) in 2 of the 4 econ classes and an A in a 3rd.
But I made a B in his bullshite Econ 2035(whatever Banking and Financial Institutions was).

His philosophy was, after babbling every class about his accomplishments, that we should read the text and expect an IVY League level test on the material. Then he'd curve our grades so we don't fail.

I tried to show that somebitch what's up reading the text book TWICE. I tied for highest grade with an 87. fricked up my 4.0(I was on a 8 semester streak of making the Deans List after spending the first 2.5 years of college frickin off). So yea. I know what I was capable of in 1997 and he deprived me of it.

frick him. Dammit I tried not to Badmouth him.

To be fair, most of them aren't here to teach. They're here to do research and are forced to teach.

Still doesn't excuse them from being an arse though.

There was this prof at LSU students called "California John". What a nut. Can't remember his last name. Sandals and socks, ponytail, balding on top.

His theories, which he would defend to no end:
1. That we would lose the Persian Gulf war (fall of 1990) because he saw a dove chasing a hawk on the way to class.
2. That the Edsel failed to sell because the front grill looked like a vagina
3. That sunglasses cause cancer.

After the first week, the class just gave up challenging him, and just let him ramble. Made an A.

I don't remember the rude and arrogant ones. Most were professional and devoted to teaching their students. Some were super nice. I remember them best.

Without question. That's why the OT often has a Kerry Sauley appreciation thread. Dude taught an easy arse MGMT 3200 class, BUT... you remember most of his lectures/stories 20 yrs later.

"I have the right to give you a pop quiz whenever I want to". "I don't care if you paid for this class with your money. My class, my rights".

These statements are neither rude nor arrogant

Sounds like you just have thin skin

I remember in college I had a professor who did not want to listen to our point of view on the subject in class.

He screamed at us.

Well they shouldn't be screaming but depending on the subject maybe it's best for the students to STFU and learn

Those are the ones I refused to help when they couldn’t figure out how to connect their laptop to the projector.

Does not compute. Granted, I think I showed up on test day ONLY. I did like his walk in music and dressing up for test day.

Your opinion of rude and arrogant is different than mine. I like professors that hold people accountable. A pop quiz is supposed to be a surprise, you aren't supposed to know when you are getting it. That is what makes them effective.

My favorite professor always arranged the graded exams in descending order and passed them out. Doubt you can get away with that today, but it did always make people try a little harder.

I always liked the strict professors who would make people look stupid if they did something that was against their policy.. I always thought it was funny, well until happens to you, but when it's not you its funny.

The examples that you shared sound like someone that is just being direct and giving you some good advice. Maybe you should listen to the person who is giving out the grades and not be so entitled?

They don't really know life outside academia. Product of their own environment, really. I can't imagine working at a university is a pleasant experience nowadays.

I had a history professor who was a retired military man who fought in Vietnam. He also worked on Washington DC at one time as some type of consultant for the military.

He had some interesting stories. I wouldn't say he didn't know life outside of academia.

Most aren’t hired to teach, but more for research purposes. Teaching to most of these professors is a pain in the arse which is prob why they are grumpy.
