re: What is your BMI?

Ok the I chart must be for people with absolutely zero muscle mass. Why do I say that? Not because of my current BMI. I know I’m fat and need to lose weight and am actually working and slowly succeeding on that.
The chart is bull shut because at my current height, 5’9”, it says I can be at normal weight all the way down to 120 lbs.
I wrestled in high school and had to severely cut weight to maintain 135. It was fricking brutal, I’m talking 1,200 calories a day, zero processed carbs at every actual meal, skipping lunch for a single original power bar 3/7 days, all while taking part in a 3 hour wrestling practice and then running on a treadmill at full clip (10.5 mph) for 30 fricking minutes after dinner.
Are Americans fat? Yes. Are we obese? Yes. Do 75%+ need to lose 10+ pounds? Yes. But the BMI ranges for proper weight must be designed for scrawny arse people with no muscle mass at all.

Not just scrawny either. I’m 5’11 178 and it says I am .1 from being overweight. You can’t gain weight via muscle mass either or it skews your BMI.

It says 120 lbs is underweight at 5’9.
There’s a 40-45 lb range for each height. It fits men and women, which accounts for the lower end of the range. I get that it doesn’t take elite athletes into consideration, but it really does work for the rest of the population as a general guide.

Ok. So make a different BMI chart for men and women, because when I go back and look at pictures of myself from wresting I look like a God damned albino Ethiopian and that’s with an empty stomach, bladder, and bowel system to barely make 135

BMI 26.4
No one would say I’m overweight, but I think I’m a little overweight. At about 23 BMI I’m very thin, but feel really good. When I was in high school I wore size 28 waist pants and I had a BMI of 21. At 18.5 BMI I would have to be hospitalized, so I don’t think you can take these numbers as absolutes. But it’s a decent guide.

I can look way too thin (including during my year of illness) and still be on the upper end of normal.
BMI is useful mostly as a population /directional index, as many have noted.
I have a very long torso, like ape man, and stay pretty naturally toned.

The chart isn’t advocating aiming for the bottom of the healthy range. You can be 168 & still considered a normal weight.

So jealous.
My BMI is 20.9. But my torso is so damn short, so I'd prefer to get down to a ~19 so I'm not carrying any belly in a swimsuit. I realize this is an issue most people don't notice on me since I'm small regardless, but I notice it damnit!

Athletes usually end up "overweight" on BMI. Muscle mass weighing more. I am 5'0, so unless I weigh 89 lbs, I am normal. I wear a size 00

I am around 22 BMI and my abs are showing
BTW, LL, that little bit of softness in the belly of cute girls is actually really sexy
