Was coming to post this. I was born in 82. But I think it was later than 86.

Edit: it was October of 87. LINK

Can’t pinpoint a particular one.

JFK getting shot is one. But I remember following all of the early NASA stuff ( Atlas,Apollo,Mercury,Apollo etc.

I followed the Vietnam Nam war via the newspapers starting at about 5 or 6 years old. Right about the time it starting getting cranked up. Every morning my PawPaw and I would read the newspaper.

A building apartment fire or high rise fire and people jumping out. Don't remember the details but this was when the news would actually show it from the jump to the ground. I want to say it was New Orleans but could have been another city. This was before the Howard Johnson's sniper event in New Orleans.

‘84 election is the earliest I can put a date on. I liked Reagan.

I remember Watergate trials preempting all 3 channels so nothing to watch and I was 5 when Secretariat won the triple crown. I thought whenever a horse won a race that’s just the name they gave it.

Final evacuation of South Vietnam in 1975, all those helicopters being pushed overboard to make room for more inbound aircraft.

Just looked it up, 30 years and 7 days ago. I remember seeing our first missiles being launched for operation Desert Storm and the Gulf War. Seeing the night sky lit up with missiles really captured the attention of my 5 year old brain.

The taking of the American hostages by Iran in 1979.

I'm not sure why that one sticks out, for I recall a few others earlier. But for some reason, the hostage taking was big with me.
Maybe it was the thought of being held against your will and the fact I have claustrophobia.

The US boycotting the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.

I remember my parents getting into a heated argument over Jimmy Carter(dad loved him) but I forget the details or what it was about. Guessing the hostages in Iran.
