Unless you grew up on the northshore and then move away. Then you always claim to be from New Orleans to gain credibility with your new peers.

It is the largest white flight suburb of the largest city in the state. It has grown to a point where businesses are now being drawn to the area allowing people to live and work there. Like the larger suburbs of all major US cities, it will likely continue on a path of massive growth in the near future.

People move bc they want to keep their jobs in NO, but not live there. What’s so hard to understand?

Originally it was good public schools and not having to pay for private. More house for the money and typically a newer house.

It wasn’t necessarily about quitting your job.

Now add to that, safety as the City goes to shite, and Metairie has been sliding over the years also.

Plus the north shore has much better restaurants and nightlife options then it did 20, 30 years ago.

Edit to say, you need to love to the east side of the parish, the west side of all full up!

I've made that choice, I really hate to say that because I love my home state and all of its culture(real traditional culture,) whenever I go back anymore I can't wait to leave, it's become a flaming cesspool

There is a giant physical barrier between it and NOLA keeping crime in its place and NOLA is still there for work and partying for the modestly affluent.

I don’t know what’s worse, the Northshore or Huntsville people.

I never really got the appeal of the Northshore myself. If I moved out of Old Metairie I’m out the state entirely.

The Northshore has ok public schools but it’s overcrowded and is becoming fairly trashy. Doesn’t really do a whole lot for me.

After my 12 years in New Orleans, I was left to decide whether to relocate to the North Shore or just throwing in the towel and going back to Baton Rouge.

I ultimately decided to go back to Baton Rouge. The thought of the daily commute from Mandeville, Madisonville, or Covington to the CBD was just too much. The public school options were enticing, but there was no way I'd be able to make my kids' practices, games, school functions, etc.

It just wasn't worth it.

close enough to friends and family that live in New Orleans.

Everyone says this, but when my friends move to the northshore, it might as well be Texas, I’m still not crossing the bridge

prior to the white flight, even going up into the early 80s the North Shore was truly a hidden gem, it was almost like, like...not living in Louisiana but being in Louisiana

huntsville, for sure. at least the northshore is local to louisiana.

this board was better when it was less geographically diverse. i knew it was bad when there was a thread about "the dome" being on fire and someone asked what dome/city?

For me living in Slidell provides the best fishing and hunting in the state all within 15 miles of my house and I can be downtown New Orleans within 35 minutes IF necessary which is rare these days.

I can get to my place on the coast within an hour even with traffic.

It’s about as perfect as I can get it

lack of culcha was the key, so it had less crime traffic and animal filth to contend with.

but the filth has spread to everywhere now so even that area isnt safe any more
