Was here in the 1980's. Its nothing but Metairie North now. You can see the come-overs in the traffic pattern. Constantly changing lanes, rude. St Tammany parish is over. Commuted to SLU in Hammond 86-88, then moved to Hammond. Even Tangi is drastically different. You will never ever get to see what these 2 parishes were, ever again.

That’s a bad thing?

Everyone says this, but when my friends move to the northshore, it might as well be Texas, I’m still not crossing the bridge
But your friends are more likely to cross that bridge and see you than if they were 4 or 5 hours away in Texas, which is part of the appeal of those that live on the Northshore. Far enough away to not deal with everything going on in New Orleans, but close enough to go see family and friends on a regular basis, without much hassle.

Close enough to enjoy the few good things Nola has to offer without suffering the bad things it offers

Larger and growing percentage of NS people work on the NS with no ties to NO.
If it wasn't for the airport, I'd never cross the lake.
It'd be fun to see someone run for parish president on the promise to shut down the bridges.

Drive to Covington and visit the Popeyes, Burger King, and Walmart then report back and post "aaaah, that."

My parents left N.O. and retired to the Northshore 40 years ago. I was not long behind them. For all the obvious reasons no regrets. If I want to go to the Dome, Jazz fest, parades etc. we are an hour away. If I want to see extended family on the west bank it's an hour and a half. I regret to say N.O. will only get worse, also for obvious reasons. I wish it was not true. The reason why the North shore continues to get more and more crowded is because when people leave N.O. for this area they typically do not move back.

Really the better question is why wouldn't any middle class, moderate to conservative person want to live there compared to NOLA.
I lived a little west of Slidell for 8 years, then Madisonville for 7 years, before moving back to Old Metairie, where I was raised.
Old Metairie is, by far, the most livable. There are restaurants within walking distance, and traffic is a non-factor. However, the Northshore is farther away from the Democrats, so it’s a mixed bag. The traffic on the Northshore is horiffic!

This website: NOLA is trash and may as well be burned to the ground.
Also this website: the Northshore is great because it is in driving distance to NOLA.

Good point. I’m clearly in the first camp though.

My dad, RIP, used to say, “When the revolution comes the first thing we’ll do is blow the bridges.” He lived near Ponchatoula.

It's not the Southshore!

If you like your job and want to stay in your job then the Northshore beats the Southshore in literally every measurable statistic that makes up quality of life.
Are there plenty of other areas throughout the country that are better where you could get a great job? Of course. Guess it all just depends on how tied you are to your job.

New Orleans is an absolute shithole and anyone who defends that steaming pile of monkey crap is a fricking moron.
