Or they can go and you know do something like start their own firm or company. Or work as a project manager, etc. Acting like an engineer has to be a salaried engineer their whole like is like acting like an accountant has to be a tax accountant.

Mingo, you are missing many things with engineering when it comes to industrial work, the best go into management, usually quickly. Some of the best immediately go into project management.
Is your range close to what most name, yep. Lots though make more and arent considered engineers on pay scale sights. Also huge bonuses are not reported on things like this.
But let's say none of that matters. How many degrees are available where most in the field are making 6 figures 10 years in? Not many. And even fewer start out at 75.
If after 10 years you are still just a design engineer, well that is on that person. You don't have to end your career as a true engineer.

1) Nursing is great for some, but it isn't hands down the best degree.
2) Engineers take two Calculus classes their first year (along with other stuff). Nurses take 0 calcs. So besides maybe the social science electives, there isnt much in common.

The one where you will enjoy getting up and going to work. When your off you don’t dread when you have to go back etc...
It doesn’t matter how much $$$$ you make or what degree you have if you
Wake up each morning hating the idea of going to work
You hate every minute of your work day while at work
When you get off you hit the bottle trying to forget work and the fact you have to go back the next day
Your home life or social life sucks
Your obese, alcoholic, stress out, no life, and die young
Get a degree in a field you enjoy and enjoy life you only get one life live it to the fullest and enjoy.
It doesn’t matter how much $$$$ you make or what degree you have if you

Adding "Software" makes this a rather redundant phrase don't you think?
To OP, studying something you find interesting will help you perform better academically. I recommend computer science if you find it remotely of interest. Other than that - accounting, finance (hello actuary money!) or statistics. I hated statistics classes in college, but rather enjoy it in my current role.

Any degree in Accounting, Engineering,Nursing or Information Systems will get you an immediate payday and leverage out of college.
Even if you're not thrilled with the initial job out of school there are still multiple opportunities open for you.
