Mingo, you are missing many things with engineering when it comes to industrial work, the best go into management, usually quickly. Some of the best immediately go into project management.
Not even the best. Well over half I'd say aren't sitting around as human calculators designing menial things. I wasnt in an engineering role after about 4 years. But my employer and customer base still know me as someone with a Mechanical Engineering degree. I met a new customer recently and it was one of the first things we talked about. The question wasnt about a particular job, just what degree.
Im 32 working in O&G and realize the salary gets skewed, but I know Mingo's stats are easily beatable if you have any personality at all to get out of the design role. And hell, you still have a chance to beat it in design.

Most doctors in the southeast make 4-5 times what PAs do and will always be in demand and have jobs.
MD is easily the most secure future when starting out, you don’t even really have to look for a job, they come to you and the steps of getting there are all laid out for you.

Engineering.
And take 4 accounting courses.
And during school learn enough data base and programming to feel comfortable.
And one course on public speaking. Speech 101.

PA's? Beyond laughable.
Doctors also have much higher liabilities and student debt to pay off.
[quote]PAs do and will always be in demand and have jobs.
Do you have any idea of the demand for PA's?You do realize there is a shortage of MD's in the US,correct?
Why aren't people rushing to be MD's if it's such a safe and secure future?I've had 2 PCP's quit on me in the last 7 years.

Mingo, Software Dev/ Engineers in DFW make around 125-150k.
I forget this is the OT where 115k - 130k isnt good money

AI, Robotics, & Data Analytics are the future major industries.
1st choice. Mechanical Engineering compounded with Computer engineering or software engineering would handle the AI/Robotics.
2nd. There’s lots of degrees opening up around data analystics but not exactly sure what they’re teaching. Eventually the AI will automate the analysis of big data so not sure how valuable. A bachelors in this now would make you attractive as a candidate, but for longevity purposes I’m just not sure if it’s worth it.

Supply and demand much?

Most MDs are working under a hospital system which covers mal practice insurance and have a team of lawyers working for them. Student debt? Most could pay that off in a year or two (most don't b/c Americans are way too comfortable with debt but that's another topic)

Probably because unfortunately the insurance companies are making GP / PCPs see more patients and increasing paper work for the same pay. They've probably moved onto other MD work.

Several GPs I know are making >300K, some >400K. So, yes. Just no comparison to PA. Don't know about pediatricians.

FWIW Warren Buffet says the most important class he took was a public speaking class.

None of you understand the question or how averages work evidently

You do realize that they're still paying for liability, correct? It comes outta of their pay one way or another.

300k is almost 100k above the national average and I highly doubt to you know any in the 400k range. LINK

At the low end of the totem pole are the primary care docs, you know the ones we need a whole lot more of. Pediatricians’ average compensation is $204,000 (up from $189,000 last year), family physicians $207,000 (up from 195,000),

My point: When it "comes out your paycheck" and you're still making >250K, it is still way above what a PA is making.

YOU, from page one

averages somewhere between 110-130k
Call me crazy but I thought that if you are using averages you shouldn't need a range...
Were you aware that the price of cars averages between $14,000 and $350,000....
You stupid frick.

Sure you should when talking about the engineering discipline. Were I to say petroleum engineering I could have been much more specific.
quote:

Yes, which is correct, but a way worse use of average because of a much larger variation.

You stupid frick.
So you've proven you don't understand averages while calling someone else stupid. Great job Beevus

So another words, the example you gave had such a huge variation that it really gave us almost no information at all that is of value. Much like my intentionally hyperbolic use of the cars.
quote:
So you've proven you don't understand averages
No, not proven at all. I know how averages work, I know how they're derived, and technically if you have an average it should be one number not a huge range.
But you're so caught up in being right all the time, that you try to baffle a huge amount of people with bullshite, and it doesn't work.
I would say you suck an average in the range of 8 to 10 dicks a night.

Garbage.
Any degree in Accounting, Engineering,Nursing or Information Systems will get you an immediate payday and leverage out of college.
Even if you're not thrilled with the initial job out of school there are still multiple opportunities open for you.
Yeah but the OP was pointing to long term success, not right out of college success, at least that's the way I read it.
Not only that, outside of Nursing and maybe some strict engineering fields, you probably could get that job anyways with any degree and taking an entry position/proving your worth. As long as we all buy into the system that "only accounting majors can actually do accounting" we're limiting everyone's potential to explore fields and bring new ideas to the table. And it's a dumb idea anyways. I don't know what field you are in, but wouldn't you find it insulting if I said "You don't have x degree, therefore you can never do x."
Don't play that game, that's bad for everyone.

It didn't have a huge variation.

It gave you a pretty specific idea of what experienced engineers make across all disciplines, you can derive the data further if you wish going in knowing your number will fall in a specific range.

PA's also don't have that big chunk coming out of their paycheck.
Sure PCP's make more but not 4 or 5 times.

They'd be among the highest paid PCP's in the country. So unless they live in NYC,SF or LA and/or have their own thriving practice with other MD's that work for them,I'm highly suspicious.
